Since the GTA 6 release announcement is (hopefully) getting close, more and more reports and leaks about the game are coming out. Following this trend, another leak has surfaced recently regarding the game’s engine and how it will be much better than the previous ones Rockstar has used.

For those who are unaware of what a game engine is, if put simply, it is responsible for how good a game looks and how its mechanics work. Rockstar Games use a game engine called RAGE, different versions of which were used in developing both GTA 5 and, most recently, Red Dead Redemption 2. A significantly improved version of this same engine will be used in GTA 6, too.

How good will GTA 6’s rumored game engine be?

As reported by the latest source, GTA 6 will allegedly use the 9th version of the RAGE engine for GTA 6. This is expected to be an improvement upon RAGE 8, which was most recently used in RDR2. The source also claims that the difference in graphical improvement going from Red Dead Redemption 2 to Grand Theft Auto 6 might be greater than that of Grand Theft Auto 5 and RDR2.

RAGE 9’s improvements over the last generation will reportedly include the game’s physics, such as improved water physics and vehicle collisions. It might also feature a more realistic time management system for the in-game day and night cycle, as well as improved rendering quality such as textures, lighting, volumetric clouds, etc. This is important as it will significantly affect the game’s visual appeal and graphics.

Lastly, the alleged engine is also expected to help implement improved AI in the game for the player’s interaction with NPCs. In recent times, many game developers have taken advantage of recent AI improvements to implement smarter NPCs in their games. These NPCs can be aware of the player’s situation and even talk to them like a real person would.

Fans have high expectations from GTA 6’s graphics and realism, which has been talked about for a long time. When GTA 5 came out, it had really amazing graphics for its time, so the same is expected of GTA 6. We hope the game’s graphical improvements are as good as fans expect them to be and Rockstar Games don’t disappoint their much-impatient fanbase.
