It's been almost 8 months since Rockstar Games released the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, so we've all had plenty of time to marvel at the details of the video and look forward to what should be the biggest, best-looking, and most-diverse GTA world yet. However, a former Rockstar developer says that some fans may be "disappointed on the first day" as he can't foresee the experience in GTA 6 being "wildly different" from Grand Theft Auto V.

With the first GTA 6 reveal trailer now surpassing the milestone of 200 million views, and its confirmed Fall 2025 release date, fans are understandably craving for more official information and look at the highly-anticipated game. Of course, we're hoping for a boundary-pushing and revolutionary game, and although Rockstar has a great reputation for surpassing fan expectations with their latest titles, maybe we should lower our expectations until we see more of GTA 6.

Former Rockstar Games developer Obbe Vermei has recently shared his thoughts on GTA 6 and how he thinks it's going to go down with players, and according to him, it's "going to be the best game out there," even if it could initially disappoint some fans. Vermei worked for Rockstar Games between 1995 to 2009 as technical director and played a major role in the programming of GTA 3 and GTA 4, as well as GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas. He's had a big impact on the Grand Theft Auto franchise as a whole, and when he was asked about his thoughts on GTA 6 based on what was already revealed about the game, he predicts that while many aspects of the next GTA game will get better and bigger, it won't be a massive upgrade that many are hoping for.

In a new interview with YouTuber SanInPlay, Vermeij clarified that he has "no inside information" about GTA 6, but he's one of the individuals with plenty of insight into Rockstar's way of developing games and is one of the few former developers from the company that's been vocal about his experience there and the games he worked on. In the video, he first made it clear that he was thoroughly impressed with what was revealed so far, especially the beach scene, where each NPC seems to have unique animation, but notes that the game will not be much different from the previous GTA title.

“It looks like they’ve just basically taken [GTA 5] even further, right?” he told the YouTube content creator. “The scene that blows me away is the one on the beach where everybody seems to be doing something else, like every character has got its own animation. I think that looks pretty amazing. But I don’t think it is going to be wildly different from GTA 5. I think maybe people might be a little disappointed on the first day. But it’s still going to be the best game out there.”

Considering how high expectations are for GTA 6, it does seem like there's a chance that some players could end up disappointed, but fans shouldn't forget Rockstar's strong reputation of delivering much better content than what they initially revealed. Despite his prediction, Vermeij sounds optimistic as he mentioned that "I love the Miami vibe," which he says "suits GTA very well."

For now, we've only got the first trailer so we're still in the dark about much of what to come in GTA 6; at least we know that it's currently in development for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and that it will be set in the fictional state of Leonida (based on Florida). Hopefully, the second trailer will launch within a few months,
