Goblin Slayer is a dark fantasy anime series set in a world where adventurers battle monsters. The series follows the light novel as its source material, which was written by Kumo Kagyu and illustrated by Noboru Kannatsuki. After its release, Episode 1 of the series left the viewers with completely mixed feelings. Consequently, the series’ Season 1 captured the viewer's heart by showcasing its resolute, dark, and dreary nature of facing goblins.
The series follows a story of an adventurer known as the "Goblin Slayer" who, for personal reasons, only takes quests related to goblins and hunts them down. As the series progresses he meets new friends, forms a party with them, and continues his hunt. The story also progresses and we learn more about why he wants to wipe out every last goblin. In addition, it also explores the theme of revenge and how Goblins affected the lives of several characters in the series.
Season 1 of Goblin Slayer managed to gain a lot of success, it was one of Crunchyroll's most-streamed series of 2018. There is no denying that season 1 of Goblin Slayer was a crowd-puller, even for its source material.
The Goblin Slayer Season 2 announcement was made during the GA FES 2021, a new visual and teaser trailer were also revealed along with the announcement.
Goblin Slayer Season 2 Release Date
Update: Goblin Slayer Season 2 Episode 1 is now streaming on Crunchyroll.
The exact date of release is still yet to be announced but the Liden Films has confirmed that the new season will air this year. The only season remaining this year is Fall, so it is expected that Goblin Slayer Season 2 will air during Fall 2023. It was recently announced that the new season will premiere on October 7, 2023.
A new visual for Goblin Slayer Season 2 was also released on September 8 when the production team announced the release date:
The first season had a total of 12 episodes with a movie soon airing after in 2020. The number of episodes that Season 2 will comprise of, is yet to be announced. But we expect that due to the popular rise of anime seasons being divided into two parts, it has a likely chance of taking the same route.

What story will Goblin Slayer Season 2 cover?
To date, Goblin Slayer has had 16 Light Novel volumes and 14 Manga volumes published. The first season of Goblin Slayer consisted of a total of 12 episodes which covered the first two volumes of the Light Novel as its direct source material. The movie Goblin Slayer: Lost Crown which aired in 2020 covered the events of the fifth volume with no direct connection between the first season and the movie.
The Movie didn't act as a continuation of the first season, so it is speculated that the Second Season will cover volumes 3 & 4 of the light novel. Though it is still unclear to most extent if that will actually be the case because there hasn't been another announcement yet since the teaser.
But what is certain is that we will get to see more adventures of the eponymous Goblin Slayer and his party.
