Frieren, Fern, and Stark started traveling to Auberst after parting ways with Sein in the previous episode. As the anime’s second cour begins, Frieren and Fern are kicking off their journey to become first-class mages. That said, the anime has released its new preview stills for the upcoming Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Episode 18, titled First Class Wizard Selection Exam, revealing the start of the First Class Mage Exam.

The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Episode 18 preview begins with Ubel, a first-class mage and a known troublemaker who joined the same first-class mage exam as Frieren and Fern. She seems to be relaxing on the ground while holding her wand. It looks like Frieren and Fern have already arrived in Auberst, and the slayer is holding her apprentice’s hand as they walk together while Stark stays behind.

Wirbel then appears, followed by a still of Denken, Laufen, and Richter, who all participate in the exam, in the middle of the forest. For the last preview, Fern is seen with Kanne, who has been paired with her and Frieren for a task.

What to Expect from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Episode 18

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Episode 18 will see the arrival of Frieren, Fern, and Stark in Auberst. However, to enter the Northern land, they must be accompanied by a first-class mage. As the First Class Mage Exam is about to begin, the new episode will reveal how difficult the tasks are and how they sometimes end with deaths. That said, there have been years that no one has passed the exam, so it remains to be seen if Frieren and Fern can make it.

You can read the synopsis below:

Freeren and his friends parted ways with Zain and came to the magical city of Oythurst. In order to enter the northern plateau beyond this point, it is mandatory to be accompanied by a first class magician. There are years when no one passes the First Class Wizard Examination, and it is a difficult task that sometimes results in casualties. At the exam venue where Freelen and Fern headed, skilled magicians had gathered.

The anime is based on the manga of the same name, written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe.
