Marvel's Eternals may not have fared better in the MCU but it remains to be one of the newest additions to the current narrative of the franchise. One of the characters is played by Barry Keoghan, Druig, who is an Eternal distant to the others and shrouded in mystery while being tucked away in a forest. According to the star, he was told by the director of the Marvel movie, Chloe Zhao, to act like Star Wars' Hayden Christensen during the time he was Anakin Skywalker.
Joining the MCU in Phase Four are the Eternals and one of the characters is played by Barry Keoghan. Druig is introduced to be aloof to the others of his kind and he lives in the middle of a forest with his own mini-civilization. With such a characteristic of being distant, Barry Keoghan revealed in an interview with GQ that he was instructed by director Chloe Zhao to act like Anakin Skywalker from the Star Wars movies:
Chloe kept referencing Hayden Christensen. His character in Star Wars to be a bit more [specific]. She just wanted me to be a bit more still, very chin high. That was the only, really, prep I kinda done was to learn to walk a bit slower. I tried to mind-control people, and people would go, ‘What are you doing? Why are you staring at me?’ You’re doing superhero movies so you’ve got to humanize them. Don’t play the superhero – try and bring the human side of them out. Chloe just kind of let me be me and wanted me to kind of be still.
Druig has the power of mind control which he uses to manipulate people, similar to how Anakin Skywalker used the Force. Eternals introduced the titular group of age-old beings who have lived on Earth for, presumably, longer than mankind itself. They are descendants of the Celestials which have been in the MCU as far back as the earlier phases of the franchise. However, their introduction did not quite catch the attention of the viewers with its ratings flunking below average. Still, the lore of the Eternals brought something new to the MCU.
Is Eternals 2 happening?
As of the time of writing, the MCU has not announced if Eternals 2 would happen. Given the ratings of Eternals, a renewal may be quite a push over the expectations since the movie requires top-billed actors and actresses, thus, the movie would need a revenue that could, at least, level with the capital. Still, seeing the Eternals in a different movie is highly possible.
The Eternals could enter in other MCU movies wherever they would fit into the narrative. The fate of the group in the end of Eternals have their status in the MCU floating given that that were taken by Arishem, the Celestial, for what they have done to Tiamut. Eternals also introduced the beginnings of Dane Whitman who is to become Black Knight, and he is also connected to Blade which is having a movie in the near future.
