What is Monsters anime about?

Monsters follows the story of Ryuma, a samurai who fights a dragon and gains allies. The series takes place in the One Piece universe, as the lead character himself is from the land of Wano Country. He even has major ties with the Straw Hats and is actually an ancestor of Roronoa Zoro.

You can read the synopsis below:

Monsters takes us back in time to the story of the samurai Ryuma. Years before, a dragon horn with magical powers was stolen, and the samurai finds himself caught up in the catastrophe around that dragon's horn and the devastating appearance of a dragon in town.

Based on a one-shot manga by Eiichiro Oda, Monsters was originally published in the 1994 Shonen Jump Autumn Special. It was reprinted in 1998 to be part of Wanted!, a collection of five manga one-shots Oda produced before One Piece. The One Piece 100 We Are ONE celebration released its voice comic adaptation in 2021. In addition, its anime adaption by E&H production was officially announced at the One Piece Day 2023 event in July.
