The Pokémon media franchise has been a staple in the industry for 27 years and Pikachu remains to be one of the most popular characters in the lore. Who would not love how adorable Pikachu is? His lightning bolt tail, circular cheeks, and overall fuzzy appearance makes him an iconic character from Pokémon. Over the years, he made his name and recently, the official Pokémon YouTube channel released a special treat for everyone who loves the character, it is an anime short titled Detective Pikachu and the Mystery of the Missing Flan.
If there's something fans know about Pikachu other than being powerful and adorable is that Pikachu loves food with everything that he is. Fitting as a treat to all the Pokémon fans across the globe. Detective Pikachu and the Mystery of the Missing Flan follows the titular character as he aims to film his morning routine but being a detective is in his veins and when they found out that Tim's flan is missing, it's a case that Pikachu would solve. Detective Pikachu is everything that the word adorable means and being a detective, a mystery like the missing flan is one that brings him to what he does best. By the end of the clip, the culprit was revealed in the anime short. Unfortunately, for Tim's missing flan, it could not be located anymore, at least, physically as a flan.
Is Detective Pikachu 2 still happening?
In 2019, Pikachu made his first ever live-action debut in Detective Pikachu where he is voiced by Ryan Reynolds and and Ōtani. The movie was well-received by the audience but was affected by the holdover of Avengers: Endgame. Still, Detective Pikachu managed to stay afloat and bring home a success.
In the same year, mere months before the release of Detective Pikachu, Legendary Entertainment already announced that a sequel is under development. In February 2023, it was confirmed that Detective Pikachu 2 remains in active development. That being said, it is expected that Ryan Reynolds would be back to reprise his role as the voice of Detective Pikachu.
