Long before Deadpool & Wolverine hit the big screen, the movie was rife with cameo rumors, including one about Henry Cavill. Back in March, some sources claimed that the former The Witcher star would play a Wolverine variant, which was later confirmed to be true. As a former member of the DC Extended Universe, Zack Snyder has reacted to Cavill’s appearance in the threequel following his Superman exit.

Snyder cast Cavill as Superman in the 2013 Man of Steel. However, after his last appearance in the post-credits scene of Jaume Collet-Serra’s 2022 Black Adam, the 41-year-old announced in December 2022 that he would no longer reprise his role as the fan-favorite DC hero. So, as Cavill recently made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Snyder was asked about his reaction.

“I haven’t seen it yet, but I did hear about it,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

The Rebel Moon director also grinned when told Deadpool quipped that Marvel would treat Cavill better than DC. As it seemed to refer to the actor’s prime being wasted in the studio, Snyder answered if it was true that Cavill’s casting was put on the sidelines.

“Well, Henry is an amazing Superman to me, obviously. I hired him. I wanted him to be Superman,” he continued. “So, any coins left on the table are unfortunate, and in that way, it would be great to have more Henry. I always think you could have more Henry.”

For starters, Cavill appeared as the Cavillerine, a Wolverine variant, who beat out Deadpool when the latter was looking for the adamantium-clawed X-Man in different timelines to help him save his world in Deadpool & Wolverine. With his thick beard and berserker vitality, he was on-brand when he took on the role, even briefly.

Will Henry Cavill Replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the MCU?

So far, Cavill has yet to break his silence about his exciting cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. He also hasn’t discussed his MCU future after this appearance. However, as a popular fan-cast for the MCU’s Wolverine, there are rumors Cavill will replace Jackman down the line. The claims heightened in 2020 when he was said to be cast as Wolverine in the then-untitled Captain Marvel 2 by Nia DaCosta. Instead, the film, which ended up being titled The Marvels, featured another X-Men member, Beast, played by Kelsey Grammer, in the post-credits scene.

The Argylle star has proven his superhero appeal in projects like Man of Steel and The Witcher. However, with Jackman’s return after his supposed retirement and final movie, James Mangold’s 2017 Logan, it looks like he’s not going anywhere. Hence, he may continuously play his iconic role, though no one knows until when. As Deadpool quips, Marvel will make him do it until he’s in his 90s.

So, until Marvel Studios announces Cavill will be the new Wolverine, these claims will remain merely rumors. Though it’s now working on an X-Men reboot, and the Mutant Saga will reportedly begin in MCU Phase 7, everything remains to be seen.
