Wolverine won’t be the only character with sharp claws in Deadpool & Wolverine. Meet Peggy, the winner of Britain’s Ugliest Dog, who will make her acting debut in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Despite her unconventional look, this faithful canine will be Deadpool’s four-legged companion. Now, Ryan Reynolds reveals how Peggy becomes Dogpool and joins the threequel.
In an interview with Empire, Reynolds revealed that the addition of Peggy in Deadpool & Wolverine was “love at first sight.” In fact, Wade Wilson loves Dogpool, and no, she isn’t just another character around. This pup has a particular reputation.
“Her real name is Peggy, and she won the award for Britain’s Ugliest Dog,” he said.
The actor continued that he became a huge supporter of Peggy because she seemed to be the animal manifestation of his character. So, if the movie would focus on Logan and Wade working together to defeat a common enemy and save the Sacred Timeline, Dogpool would also have a major role.
“It was, just like many things during the writing process, a tiny little afterthought, and it grew,” Reynolds continued. “It was one of those things where you just keep listening to the movie and Dogpool became a staple.”
Reynolds first introduced Dogpool in a post on Instagram in November 2023. True enough, she’s just like the Merc with a Mouth with her iconic red and black outfit like Deadpool’s. So, though her part in Deadpool & Wolverine is yet to be revealed, just like her human in the movie, this Merc with a Bark will probably bring chaos.
“Dogpool’s a Pool, so probably has some moral flexibility about where she wees and poops,” Reynolds added.
Who is Dogpool behind Deadpool & Wolverine?
A Pug and Chinese Crested Dog mix, Peggy gained popularity for her looks. She was adopted by Holly Middleton in 2018 when she was just six months old. A runt of an accidental litter, she joined an ugly dog competition in 2023 held by the photography printing firm ParrotPrint.
Fortunately, she won and earned the title of Britain’s Ugliest Dog and met huge success. Peggy appeared on BBC Breakfast and Reynolds later shared her photo wearing a Deadpool costume on social media, announcing her as an animal actor in Deadpool & Wolverine. Mind you, she has her own Instagram account, which now has almost 80,000 followers.
