Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to feature many surprising cameos, including some stars from 20th Century Fox's X-Men movies, but it might also feature Channing Tatum's debut as Gambit.

While rumors have been spreading about Channing Tatum making a cameo appearance as Gambit in Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine movie for years, there hasn't been any official confirmation. However, it seems Hugh Jackman may have finally teased his debut as Remy LeBeau, a.k.a. Gambit. After Tatum commented “Let’s go daddy” on one of the Wolverine actor's recent posts, Jackman teased that Tatum may "be" someone using text matching Gambit's signature purple color.

While Channing Tatum's appearance as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine is not officially confirmed, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility as the movie is expected to be one of the greatest pieces of fan service of all time. The first trailer for the movie already confirmed the return of Aaron Stanford as Pyro, Lewis Tan as Shatterstar, as well as most of the supporting cast from the first two Deadpool films. It would make sense for Deadpool & Wolverine to give Tatum his chance to shine as Gambit, given that his role is one of the most infamous pieces of scrapped media from the Fox era.

The History of Channing Tatum's Cancelled Gambit Project

The role of Gambit has been Channing Tatum's passion project for over a decade, and he has been in talks to play the X-Men character as early as 2006. However, rewriters and scheduling conflicts prevented the 43-year-old actor from appearing in any other mainline X-Men movie. Tatum still expressed his desire to get a Gambit spin-off movie made.

Planning for a Gambit movie started in 2014 with Tatum attached, and it was announced that the project would be released in 2016. However, following a series of creative conflicts and delays, the project was eventually cancelled in 2019 after Disney's purchase of 20th Century Fox.

Deapdool & Wolverine is scheduled to release in theaters on July 26, 2024.
