Deadpool & Wolverine has introduced new concepts that may be part of the future of Marvel Cinematic Universe. For one, it coined the new term anchor being, which means an individual who stabilizes the timeline they belong to, and introduced the new device called Time Ripper, which can be used to prune timelines quickly. However, one scene from the threequel remains a mystery to many: Thor crying over Deadpool. After Ryan Reynolds teased that he knew the story behind that scene, Chris Hemsworth addressed that enigmatic sequence.
In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene, Deadpool saw Thor crying over a heavily injured variant of the Merc with a Mouth in what looked like the middle of a great war, displayed on a monitor at the Time Variance Authority (TVA) office. Wondering what that scene was about, Deadpool asked Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen) about it, and the latter revealed it was an event from the future that he shouldn’t see yet. So, as many wonder about the meaning behind it, Hemsworth himself finally breaks his silence, though he only plays coy.
“I can keep secrets too,” he wrote on X after reposting Reynolds’ tweet.
After Paradox claims that the mysterious Deadpool & Wolverine scene is from the future, it may be a tease of Wade Wilson’s return to the next MCU projects. Many assume it will be in Avengers: Secret Wars, as the threequel seemingly sets the stage for the upcoming movie. Also, as Hemsworth used the word “secrets,” it only adds more fuel to the fire. By the looks of it, Deadpool will join the Avengers and work alongside Thor, one way or another, to fight off the new villain, Doctor Doom, who the returning Marvel veteran Robert Downey Jr. will play.
Will Chris Hemsworth’s Thor return to the next Avengers movies?
Unlike Chris Evans and Downey, who have left their iconic roles as Captain America and Iron Man after Anthony and Joe Russo’s 2019 Avengers: Endgame, Hemsworth is still tied to his character of Thor. The actor makes history for being the first hero to get a fourth solo movie in the franchise with Taika Waititi’s 2022 Thor: Love and Thunder. Though Thor 5 is yet to be confirmed, as one of the original Avengers, there are questions if Hemsworth will return to the next Avengers movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
“Nothing official yet. I’m sort of waiting for the phone call and waiting for the news,” he told ComicBook’s Phase Zero while promoting his new movie Transformers One at the San Diego Comic-Con 2024. “We’ll see what happens.”
If Thor does return in Secret Wars, there may be a storyline where Deadpool may save Thor, probably sacrificing himself for the God of Thunder. However, it remains to be seen if Deadpool will truly die or not, knowing he has the ability to heal himself.
Fans are advised to take these assumptions with a grain of salt, as nothing is confirmed yet. It’s also possible that scene means nothing and may only be a gag for a future release, true to Deadpool’s style.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now playing in theaters, while Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
