Ryan Reynolds has taken it to social media to share a new Deadpool 3 set photo that teases a previously unseen filming location. The third movie starring the Merc With a Mouth is one of the most highly-anticipated titles hitting theaters this year, and fans are always trying to learn what to expect from the upcoming Marvel movie by looking at clues they can find from set photos shared all over the internet. Reynolds usually likes to keep details under wraps, but sometimes likes to tease fans about what''s to come.
Over on Reynolds' Instagram, he posted a story featuring side-by-side chairs with the names Logan and Wade Wilson, referencing his role and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
The most most interesting part of the photo is the background, as it's filled with greenery and plants, so it looks like they are filming in a jungle-like setting, a location that hasn't been revealed in any previous set photos. This makes us wonder if Deadpool and Wolverine could be going to the Savage Land.
What is the new filming location in Deadpool 3?
Although Marvel Studios and Disney haven't confirmed the new location teased in the latest photo, we can speculate that it's the Savage Land. In the Marvel comics, the Savage Land is created by a disciple of the Beyonders, and it's a tropical prehistoric world hidden within Antarctica. The comics introduced the location in Marvel Mystery Comics #22 in 1941 and became popular in X-Men #10 in 1965. It's the home of dinosaurs and people as well as Ka-Zar, who resides in the mysterious world.
The Savage Land was also featured in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is revealed to be Kevin Feige's idea. Speaking to Variety, VFX artist talking about the process of creating the scene.
"One was an Incan statue world, which ended up in the movie because Kevin Feige thought, 'Well, that could be a great world to put the Living Tribunal in.' So that world became the Living Tribunal world," Wajsbrot said. "We proposed a jungle and Kevin Feige said, 'Well, it could be cool if it was Savage World.' It's a world that exists in the Marvel Universe, so we had to add dinosaurs. We had to model and texture and render and animate dinosaurs for two seconds, which is extremely not cost-efficient."
Deadpool 3 Filming Locations
Due to the writers' and actors' strikes last year, Deadpool 3 has been filming on and off, but the highly-anticipated movie is currently filming in the U.K. Production started in May 2023 in London, and a car crash scene was filmed there in July 2023. The crew also decided to film in Norfolk rather than on a soundstage, and much of the leaked photos came from this set, including a destroyed 20th Century Fox logo and Jackman wearing a classic yellow Wolverine suit.
What will Deadpool 3 be about?
Deadpool 3 is directed by Shawn Levy from a script written by Bob's Burgers' Lizzie Molyneaux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneaux, with the writers of the first two Deadpool movies, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, reportedly contributing to the script. Details about the contents of the script are still being kept under wraps, but Levy confirmed that its story is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During an interview with Happy Sad Confused podcast, Levy talked about Deadpool 3's connection to the MCU as well as various rumors surrounding the movie:
"I'm so wary of giving anything away because I've learned the hard way that even with a few titles – like any Marvel title – everything and anything you say can lead to not only rumors but misinformation. I'll just say this: It's very much part of the MCU, what a privilege, what a wealth of resources and knowledge."
In addition to Reynolds and Jackman, the third Deadpool movie will also star Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, and Matthew Macfadyen and Emma Corrin in currently-unknown roles.
Deadpool 3 is scheduled to release in theaters on July 26, 2024.
