Dave Filoni’s Star Wars movie will feature a “strong presence,” reveals a Star Wars actor, and it’s what fans have been predicting for some time. Lucasfilm initially announced Dave Filoni’s Mandalorian crossover film at Star Wars Celebration 2023. The studio described the movie as a culmination of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s Disney+ MandoVerse. This news was revealed after Ahsoka’s debut, which introduced multiple Star Wars: Rebels characters into live-action, including Sabrine Wren, Thrawn, Ezra Bridger, and more.
Star Wars fans predicted that the series would lead to the big-screen crossover, with one Ahsoka star now confirming these predictions and also revealing their role. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ahsoka actor Eman Esfandi reveals that Ezra Bridger "plays a pivotal role" in an upcoming Star Wars film, along with a potential Ahsoka Season 2 and Dave Filoni’s film. He said:
Ezra Bridger was initially featured in Rebels and was a Force-sensitive orphan from Lothal. He later joined the Rebels Ghost crew and received direct training from Jedi Kanan Jarrus. In the Rebels finale, Ezra makes a sacrifice that leads to his and Thrawn’s mysterious disappearance. However, in Ahsoka Episode 6, Sabine finally finds Ezra, with the live-action role being played by Eman Esfandi for the first time in live-action.
While the actor isn’t aware of the character’s fate or his own future intentions, Esfandi is still confident that Ezra "will have a very strong presence" in an Ahsoka Season 2 and the Mandalorian Crossover film "if they happen." He said:
What surprised fans about Esfandi’s Ezra claims?
Considering how Ahsoka ended, we’re certain that Eman Esfandi has a major role to play in a potential Season 2, with Dave Filoni’s Star Wars film doesn’t come as a shock. Moreover, many reports also suggest that Thrawn might be the movie’s antagonist since the two characters are already up for a rematch. However, Esfandi’s confidence in Filoni’s story is surprising, along with the disclaimer of "if they happen."
We aren’t sure if it’s because of Lucasfilm’s long history of announcing projects and then canceling them. Fans have a lot more questions regarding Ezra’s live-action future, such as if he’ll train with Kanan’s son, Jacen, like how Jacen’s father trained him, or when he might come run into The Mandalorian’s Force-sensitive Grogu.
They’re also wondering if Luke Skywalker will come back in an Ahsoka Season 2 or The Mandalorian crossover, which would allow fans to see the two Jedi Knights go up against Thrawn. Regardless of there being more questions than answers, Esfandi’s confidence in his upcoming big-screen role is reassuring.
