Code 8: Part II Release Date, Cast, Plot, Trailer and Everything We Know So Far

Here is everything we know about the forthcoming Code 8: Part II movie.

Following the success of the original film, the expectations are high for Code 8: Part II. The first Code 8 movie may not be as well-known as X-Men, but it received positive reviews from critics and science fiction enthusiasts when it premiered on Netflix in April 2020. Hence, it comes as no surprise that it is getting its own sequel.

Code 8: Part II is projected to pick up where the first installment left off. For starters, Code 8 is set in the fictional Lincoln City, in a universe where 4% of the population are inexplicably born with special abilities. However, instead of being lauded as heroes or using their abilities to amass wealth, they are reviled by the public.

Robert Amell and Stephen Amell are set to reprise their roles as Connor Reed and Garrett Kelton, respectively, from the original film. On the other hand, Jeff Chan is returning to his position as director. As fans await for more details about the upcoming Netflix movie, here is everything you need to know about Code 8: Part II.

Although being targeted for a late 2023 release, Netflix has not yet announced the official release date of Code 8: Part II as of this writing. To recall, the American streaming company giant first announced that it acquired the sequel to Code 8 in June 2021 and divulged that it would be released exclusively to the platform. The sequel is said to be presently in post-production, and fans will have to keep their fingers crossed, hoping for some good news anytime now.

A massively successful run on Netflix was largely responsible for Code 8's initial success in attracting the large audiences it currently enjoys. After spending more than two weeks in the U.S. Top 10 on Netflix, Code 8 discovered a cult fanbase that has remained devoted to its world since then. Netflix reacted appropriately to the viewers’ response, thus, making Code 8: Part II come into a reality soon.

According to iMDB, the film is currently in post-production, so it's likely that we'll see it released on Netflix by the end of this year or by early 2024, but we'll have to wait for an official release date from the streamer.

The first film's plot revolved around Connor Reed (Robbie Amell), a young man with superpowers who struggles to pay for his mother's (Kari Matchett) medical care. After committing several crimes, Connor voluntarily surrendered to the authorities, and the film concluded with a vote to prohibit superpowers in Lincoln City. Meanwhile, the official plot synopsis for Code 8: Part II reads as follows:

“A teenage girl, fighting to get justice for her slain brother at the hands of corrupt police officers, becomes a target and enlists the help of an ex-con and his former partner-in-crime. Together, they face a highly regarded and well protected police sergeant who will use every tool to prevent himself from being exposed.”

The Code 8: Part II plot is likely to excite fans, as its themes and style resemble those of the original film. The first installment gave the sci-fi action world a narrative grounded in the realities of many viewers by addressing questions of belonging and identity, a quality that stood out to viewers.
