After making waves by directing the first-ever live-action Barbie movie in 2023, Greta Gerwig is now set to helm the Netflix reboot of Chronicles of Narnia. The streamer acquired the rights to new adaptations of C.S. Lewis’ iconic novels of the same title in 2018. So, now that a new movie series will be made, the franchise’s original star, William Moseley, reveals what he thinks of Gerwig’s take on the remake.

In an interview with Bleeding Cool, Moseley had nothing but good words for Gerwig as she took on the mantle of directing new Chronicles of Narnia movies for Netflix. He even praised her works for Barbie and Little Women and believed that the streaming giant was lucky to have her handle this project.

In terms of what I think about Greta Gerwig directing, I think she's incredible. Barbie was an amazing movie, and Little Women was brilliant. Everything she touches turns gold, so I think Netflix is lucky to have her, and I'm sure she will embrace the challenge.

Knowing the series’ sprawling nature and fantastical elements and characters, Moseley hoped Gerwig would enjoy doing the movies, calling it an “incredible world to create.” That said, just like the awaiting viewers, he, too, couldn’t wait to see what she had to offer after the success of the 2000s trilogy under Walt Disney Pictures.

“I hope she enjoys it because it's an incredible world to create,” he said. “And I can't wait to see what she produces.”

What role did William Moseley play in Chronicles of Narnia?

In the original Chronicles of Narnia trilogy, Moseley played the role of Peter Pevensie, the eldest of the Pevensie kids, who ruled the Kingdom of Narnia during its Golden Age. He was first seen in the 2005 The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, the first big-budget movie adaptation of Lewis’ book series.

With its success, receiving critical acclaim from viewers and critics alike, two more movies were made: the 2008 The Chronicles of Narnia: Princes Caspian and the 2010 The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of Dawn Treader. However, plans for a fourth movie were scrapped after it was announced in 2018 that Netflix would work on its new adaptations.

What is Netflix’s Chronicles of Narnia reboot about?

So far, there are no words on what Netflix’s Chronicles of Narnia reboot will be about, but Gerwig is tapped to develop at least two films. Hence, her work is expected to start with the first installment of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe to introduce a new generation of Pevensie children being evacuated to the countryside during the Blitz.

They’re about to discover a magical wardrobe that will lead them to a fantasy world called Narnia. The kids will join Aslan, a wise and powerful speaking lion who’s also the true king of Narnia, as he battles the evil White Witch, also known as Queen Jadis.
