Mike Flanagan’s Carrie is officially coming back. Prime Video has renewed the Stephen King adaptation for a second season, just over two weeks after all eight episodes premiered. Flanagan returns as showrunner and executive producer, with King back as executive producer.
The renewal follows a huge opening for the series. Carrie hit No. 1 on Prime Video in more than 105 countries and debuted as the most-watched streaming title in the U.S. during its first week. Here’s everything we know about Carrie Season 2 so far.
Carrie Season 2 Renewal Announced by Prime Video
Prime Video confirmed the news on Thursday, October 22, with a short teaser on social media. “Her story is far from finished,” the streamer wrote. The announcement also promises new revelations, major character arcs and “plenty of shocking twists” in the next chapter.
Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, said the show is reaching both longtime King fans and a new generation of viewers. “It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth,” he said. “We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.”
Flanagan said the plan was always to go further than the source material. “For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story,” he said. “From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next.”
King is just as eager to keep going. “I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White,” he said. “Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next.”
How Carrie Season 1 Performed Before the Renewal
Carrie premiered on October 7, 2026, and made an immediate impact. According to Nielsen, the series ranked No. 1 overall in the U.S. for the week of October 5 to 11 with 1.264 billion minutes viewed. That total came from just five days of availability, and it put Carrie ahead of Netflix’s Below in second place.
The global numbers are just as strong. Prime Video says Carrie reached No. 1 on the service in more than 105 countries soon after launch. All eight episodes are streaming in more than 240 countries and territories.
When will Carrie Season 2 premiere?
Prime Video hasn’t announced a premiere date or release window for Carrie Season 2. A production start date and filming location also haven’t been officially confirmed. For now, the only creative team news is that Flanagan and King will both be back at the helm.

Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White. Howell landed the title role after a search in which nearly 1,500 actors read for the part.

What is Carrie about?
Carrie is the first TV series adaptation of King’s 1974 debut novel. It follows Carrie White, a misfit teenager who has spent her life hidden away at home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret. After her father’s sudden death, Carrie is thrust into public high school for the first time.
There, she has to deal with a viral bullying scandal, the cruelty of the social media age and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers. Flanagan directed four of the eight episodes, including the first two and the last two. Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick and Hiromi Kamata directed the rest.
How did Carrie Season 1 end? (Spoilers)
Flanagan’s version breaks sharply from the novel and Brian De Palma’s 1976 film. Carrie survives the prom and learns she’s part of a larger world of psychic women, led by Siegel’s mysterious Adelaide. Adelaide later uses her powers to stop Margaret’s heart.
The finale also reveals that Emaline, who seemed to be Carrie’s imaginary friend, is real and had been astral projecting. The season ends with Emaline driving out of town with Carrie, leaving her future wide open.
What will happen in Carrie Season 2?
Flanagan has spoken about a longer plan for the series. “In my dream scenario, I think it’s three seasons,” he told Collider at the Toronto International Film Festival. “In my dream scenario, I think Carrie has a wonderful three-step arc. It’s a trilogy, really.”
After Season 1 premiered, Flanagan explained that the team knew early on that Carrie would survive. “We did absolutely know that there was so much potential for the story to continue if that was the way that it wanted to go,” he told Inverse. With Season 2 now confirmed, Carrie, Emaline and Adelaide’s network of psychic women look set to move to the center of the story.
The timing of the renewal is fitting, as November 3 marks the 50th anniversary of De Palma’s Carrie. That film ended with Carrie’s death, but Flanagan’s version has already sent her out of Chamberlain alive. Season 2 will now show what life after the prom looks like for Carrie White, with Emaline beside her and Adelaide’s network still watching.
