Another Dengeki Bunko light novel is heading to the screen. Takuma Sakai's The Science Notes by Delta and Gamma will receive an anime adaptation, announced during the Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival Online 2026 on October 3.
The announcement came with a special video featuring Kanna Nakamura as Rio Iwama, set to art by the light novels' illustrator Asagi Tōsaka, as reported by Dengeki Online. No format, studio, or release date has been revealed yet — the project was announced as an anime adaptation, with details to follow.
The Science Notes by Delta and Gamma (Delta to Gamma no Rigakubu Note) follows the activities of Tsunagai High School's science club as its members try to solve the mysteries surrounding their daily lives — woven together with a story of first love. It's a youth mystery in the classic Dengeki Bunko mold, mixing everyday puzzles with the pangs of adolescence.
The announcement was one of several reveals at the Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival Online 2026, Kadokawa's annual showcase for its flagship light novel imprint. The event has become a reliable launchpad for anime adaptations, and this year's edition also delivered news on other upcoming projects.
The light novel series is still in its early days: Kadokawa shipped the first volume with illustrations by Asagi Tōsaka in November 2024, and the fourth volume ships on October 9. A manga adaptation by Lap Tsutsumi launched in Kadokawa's Comic Dengeki DaiohG magazine on April 27, and Tsutsumi drew a celebratory illustration to mark the anime announcement.
Sakai broke into the industry by winning the gold prize — effectively second place — in the 26th Dengeki Novel Prize in 2019, launching his career with Butareba: The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig. That series, illustrated by Asagi Tōsaka as well, went on to inspire a television anime that premiered in October 2023. Both the Butareba novels and their manga adaptation are released in English by J-Novel Club, and the author has now repeated the trick: pairing with Tōsaka again for a brand-new series that earned an anime adaptation within two years of its debut.
The speed of the adaptation is notable. The first Science Notes volume only shipped in November 2024, meaning the anime was greenlit with just a handful of volumes in print — a sign of Kadokawa's confidence in the property. With the fourth volume arriving October 9, the franchise will have fresh material to promote just as anime anticipation builds.
With the anime adaptation now confirmed, The Science Notes by Delta and Gamma joins the growing slate of Dengeki Bunko titles making the jump from page to screen. More details — including the format, staff, and premiere window — are expected in the coming months.
