If there's one thing that mangakas and fans agree on, it's the massive influence that the legendary Yoshihiro Togashi has over the manga community. The Hunter x Hunter creator is a true legend in the business for creating successful and entertaining manga in his long career. So it's no surprise that Bungo Stray Dogs' Kafka Asagiri credits Togashi's YuYu Hakusho for getting him started as a manga writer.
Kafka Asagiri didn't always plan to become a mangaka. Before creating Bungo Stray Dogs, Asagiri was a salaryman working for an automobile company. However, he decided to switch careers and become a manga writer, dropping Bungo Stray Dogs in 2012.
But what made Kafka Asagiri decide to leave his previous career? The mangaka explained to Comicbook.com that the decision was influenced by Yu Yu Hakusho. According to Asagiri, the manga made him take notice of character development, something that he applied to his own works.
It's great to know that Asagiri has great taste in manga and understands why Yu Yu Hakusho is one of the most influential stories in recent times. We're also glad that Asagiri decided to switch careers and create a truly engaging world with Bungo Stray Dogs which has spawned an anime, light novels, and stage plays.
YuYu Hakusho may have ended a long time ago but the manga is set for a live-action adaptation. Netflix is currently producing the series which will star Takumi Kitamura as Yusuke Urameshi, Shuhei Uesugi as Kazuma Kuwabara, Jun Shison as Kurama, and Kanata Hongo as Hiei. The new show is expected to premiere on Netflix in December 2023.
Meanwhile, the Bungo Stray Dogs anime has been renewed for a fifth season. The series returned earlier this month and the third episode of Season 5 will premiere on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
