Seishiro Nagi and Reo Mikage are back but on the big screen this time. Along with announcing the anime’s second season, a new movie, Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, is about to come. And to give fans a glimpse of what the viewers are about to see, a new preview still, a trailer, and the film’s release window have been revealed.
Blue Lock is a Japanese manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. Its serialization started in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2018 and now has 25 tankōbon volumes and 27 million copies in circulation as of July 2023. It is now considered one of the best-selling manga series of today.
Alternatively, its anime adaptation is produced by Eight Bit, and its first season was released in October 2022. A second season was announced in March 2023, followed by the announcement of a movie adaptation based on the manga’s Episode Nagi.
The anime’s official website has dropped several updates about the upcoming Blue Lock: Episode Nagi movie. The first is the film’s preview still featuring Nagi and Mikage in a side-by-side snap with its release year, 2024.
The next is the trailer that mostly focuses on Nagi, Mikage, and the Blue Rock (Blue Prison) project. “I can’t finish playing soccer while losing to you. I’ll definitely win,” Nagi declares. “My life was full of boredom until I met you and Blue Rock,” Mikage adds.
What is Blue Lock: Episode Nagi about?
Blue Lock: Episode Nagi is about the battle in Blue Rock (Blue Prison), which is about the Japan Football Union eyeing to develop strikers to lead the country to the World Cup. But compared to the anime, which sees Yoichi Isagi in the lead, the film will focus on Nagi’s point of view. You can read the movie’s synopsis below:

Who are in the cast of Blue Lock: Episode Nagi?
Blue Lock: Episode Nagi will see the anime’s returning cast, along with the staff members. The anime’s assistant director Shunsuke Ishikawa returns to direct the film, while Haikyu!!’s Taku Kishimoto handles the script, and creator Kaneshiro supervises the story.

When and where to watch Blue Lock: Episode Nagi?
Blue Lock: Episode Nagi is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2024. No official release date has been announced yet, but it is expected to hit the theaters between April and June.
So far, the film will be exclusively released in Japanese theaters. However, it remains to be seen if it will be released outside the country or will be available to stream on Crunchyroll, HIDIVE, or Netflix.
With its different take on the Blue Lock story, all eyes are now on this upcoming movie. And with the success of its anime and manga, there are high expectations surrounding Blue Lock: Episode Nagi.
