The brand-new BioShock game, also known by fans as BioShock 4, was announced nearly four years ago on December 9, 2019. The game was announced by Cloud Chamber, which is a recently formed studio, and 2K Games. So, the new team without the series creator Ken Levine is currently working on reviving the series. During that time, it was claimed that BioShock 4 would be in development “for the next several years.”
It is safe to say that “several years” have already passed, and there’s still no word on the game. Not only this but there have been multiple reports and rumors claiming that the game is facing some serious development issues. The latest update regarding BioShock 4 was not revealed by either 2K Games or Cloud Chamber, but Mack Sztaba, a senior concept artist currently working on the game at Cloud Chamber.
On ArtStation, Sztaba’s resume features the upcoming BioShock game as 2028, which might be a reference to its potential release date. This resume has been updated ever since then to say 2023, but that wasn't before the people on the internet got their fair share of screenshots. In case this information turns out to be true, then something has actually gone wrong with the game, and it was recently completely rebooted.
If BioShock 4 does end up releasing in 2028, then that means it took a total of nine years to complete the development cycle. Despite the modern standards, that’s a really long development cycle. The truth of this information means that the game is not only five years away, but even just the reveal might also be a couple of years away.
For now, it would be wise not to take this information seriously, as there’s a chance that the “2028” release date that was listed might have been some sort of mistake. Whatever the actual case might be, neither 2K Games nor Cloud Chamber, or Sztaba has issued any official statement on this particular piece of news.
