Hobby Japan Novels has released a commemorative video that includes a major announcement. While details are scarce, the video officially announced that Shisui Meikyou and tef's Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon: My Trusted Companions Tried to Kill Me, But Thanks to the Gift of an Unlimited Gacha I Got LVL 9999 Friends and Am Out For Revenge on My Former Party Members and the World is getting an anime adaptation. What is Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon anime about?
The upcoming fantasy anime is based on the Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon: My Trusted Companions Tried to Kill Me, but Thanks to the Gift of an Unlimited Gacha I Got LVL 9999 Friends and Am Out for Revenge on My Former Party Members and the World (Japanese: Shinjite Ita Nakama-tachi ni Dungeon Okuchi de Korosarekaketa ga Gift “Mugen Gacha” de Level 9999 no Nakama-tachi o Te ni Irete Moto Party Member to Sekai ni Fukushu & “Zama!) light novel series written by Shisui Meikyō and illustrated by tef.
The series started serialization on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in April 2020, and Hobby Japan later acquired it for a print release in May 2021. It also received a manga adaptation by Takafumi Ōmae, and Kodansha has been publishing it since May 2021. Both the light novel series and the manga were licensed for English-language release, with J-Novel Club releasing the light novel series and Seven Seas Entertainment publishing the manga series.
