With the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 right around the corner, players are curious to know about the villains they’ll have to face in the game. From the trailers shown at the SDCC panel as well as the Summer Games Fest, we got a peek at some of the villains and can’t wait to get into the game. In the past, Spider-Man has had plenty of villains that proved to be his equals, and it was interesting to fight against them when they showed up.
The upcoming much-anticipated sequel will not be much different either and is set to have plenty of challenging villains from Spidey’s rogue gallery of villains. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will not only have one or two villains but a whole list of them that Peter and Miles Morales will have to go head-to-head against. So far, we know the three major villains that are set to appear in the upcoming Spider-Man 2’s story, along with several other less influential ones.
All Confirmed Villains In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Kraven the Hunter
During the PlayStation Showcase 2023, Insomniac Games officially revealed Spider-Man 2's gameplay footage that was ten minutes long, giving us a look at Kraven the Hunter. The hunter came to New York with a mission of his own embedded in his mind which is to destroy the several threats present all over the city, including Spider-Man and Kurt Connors, famously known as the Lizard.
The fact that Kraven is actively tracking and hunting Spider-Man proves his confidence and persistence to be an extremely terrifying threat. He has various dangerous abilities, making him one of the most challenging threats, as he is greatly resourceful and skilled. It is safe to say that Kraven is going to be a primary antagonist in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. You can see a trailer for him below:
Lizard
It seems like Insomniac Games is trying to keep the Lizard a secret since they refuse to show much of the creature. From the handful of glimpses that we have had of him, we can see that the monster has received a pretty terrifying makeover. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the Lizard looks much different, with his body being completely covered with spikes, as compared to the last time we saw him in The Amazing Spider-Man.
The Lizard was first revealed by the developers during the PlayStation Showcase in the gameplay footage of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. In the footage, Peter Parker and Miles Morales were trying to get their hands on him since he could help Harry Osborn while Kraven the Hunter was also chasing him. You can see the ten-minute-long gameplay footage below, giving somewhat of a look at the creature.
Venom
Venom was the first villain that was confirmed when the reveal trailer of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was showcased. He showed up from a dark back alley at the end of the trailer right after Peter Parker and Miles Morales were shown. Unfortunately, Eddie Brock will not be playing the role of Venom in the game. This news was revealed at the Summer Games Fest by Bryan Intihar, the creative director of Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
However, there’s a high chance that the alien symbiote will take over the body of Harry Osborn as a host. It seems like Venom is going to be one of the most challenging and dangerous villains in the game. Currently, Insomniac Games hasn’t yet revealed if the character will be playable or not. However, Todd McFarlane did hint that the alien symbiote might be playable.
Mr. Negative
Mr. Negative only appeared for a split second in the story trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. In the story of 2018’s Spider-Man video game, Martin Li did play a major role, but we couldn’t quite understand his role in the sequel and how it will fit in Spider-Man 2’s story since he was seen for barely a second.
Grizzly
Players first got a look at Grizzly in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 when its story trailer was released during SDCC on July 21, 2023. We also saw him for barely a second while he was fighting head-to-head against Peter Parker. Compared to his comic book version, Grizzly is much more threatening in his bear costume.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Villains That Might Appear
The upcoming sequel might feature some more villains in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including Scorpion, Wraith, Black Cat, Tombstone, Prowler, and Taskmaster. We received a couple of hints about these villains in the ten-minute-long gameplay trailer. Not only this, but we also saw their names mentioned in Kraven’s tablet since he was planning to track and hunt them.
We’ll know for sure if these characters will appear in the upcoming game once it actually releases. This is a pretty exciting set of villains that might appear in the game. At this point, we are just desperately waiting for the game's release so we can go head-to-head against these villains.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to release exclusively for PS5 on October 20, 2023.
