What to Expect in A Shop For Killers 2
Lee Dong-wook shared insights during Disney+ Originals Preview 2025, a two-day event at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel back in November 2025. The Chosun Daily reported his thoughts on the project's success and future. He reflected, “I thought it would do well, but not this well. I’m grateful and happy to be doing Season 2. The mystery of Jin-man continues into Season 2. The action will be bigger in scale and more intense than Season 1.” He added that there was more pressure for Season 2 because Season 1 was so loved and he hoped Season 2 would match that level of reception. The director wrote and directed it, which worried him since creating new stories is a burden, so he tried to support the director as much as possible. Since Jian’s role is larger this time, he tried to stay relaxed throughout the process.
The first season of A Shop For Killers, released in 2024, earned strong praise for its surprising narrative turns, visually striking fight scenes, and compelling cast work, with Korean outlets highlighting its tight scripting, excellent acting, skilled direction, and impressive action choreography. This acclaim set high expectations for the follow-up project and contributed to the swift renewal decision by the streaming platform.
Season 2 also introduces several new cast members. Hyunri, the Korean-Japanese performer who took home Best New Actress at the 29th Takasaki Film Festival and earned worldwide acclaim for her roles in Pachinko, Coincidence and Imagination, Eye Love You, and Tokyo Vice Season 2, will play Q, the leader of a mercenary squad from Babylon East Asia. Masaki Okada, best known for his acclaimed performance in Drive My Car (nominated for the 94th Academy Awards), takes on the role of J, Q’s younger brother and co-leader. Jung Yoon-ha, recognized for her appearances in Casino, The Grave, Trunk, and XO, Kitty, portrays Kusanagi, the head of Babylon East Asia.
These standout performers — Jung Yoon-ha, Masaki Okada, and Hyunri — bring renewed energy and international star power to the series with their impressive range and established global followings. The fresh faces are expected to spark exciting new rivalries and add greater complexity to the mercenary world. Their characters have been specifically designed to broaden the scope of operations while creating formidable obstacles for the returning leads. This carefully chosen casting underscores the production’s ambition to enrich the storytelling and reach an even wider international audience with the Disney+ sequel.
The first season of A Shop For Killers is currently available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
