Netflix has released a new trailer for the fifth and final season of YOU, the hit psychological thriller TV series based on the novels by Caroline Kepnes. The series has been an audience-favorite since it made its debut on Netflix in 2018. After Joe's story takes a darker turn in Europe, Season 5 will see him return to where it all started: New York City.
The final season of YOU is scheduled to released on Netlfix on April 24, 2025, and the trailer gives us an early look at Joe's return to NYC as he lives under his original name. Thanks to the wealthy Kate, Joe was portrayed in the media as a hero who faked his own death to escape Love. The finale of YOU Season 4 showed Joe back in New York, seemingly trying to move on from his violent acts in London. Joe also bought a bookstore of his own, so we can expect to see an iconic glass cage there.
“Hello, you. You’re back in the greatest city in the world thanks to the one person [Kate] who could make it possible,” Joe says in the trailer. “Fame definitely took a bit of getting used to, but to live happily ever after you had to bury your old self.”
The trailer also shows a new potential love interest appearing as well as Joe struggling to escape his violent tendencies and dark desires. It looks like people from his past are also coming for revenge, so we can expect to see Joe get what's coming for him in the final season.
“We are so incredibly grateful to Netflix and Sera [Gamble] and everyone that has been a part of this show from the beginning. Sera is the most brilliant writer and partner and she will remain a key part of the YOU family as an executive producer,” creators Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter said in a statement when YOU Season 5 was announced. “We intend to bring her every idea we can from our company for years to come. Ever since our friends at Alloy shared Caroline Kepnes’ fantastic book we have always conceived it as a five-season journey. We are excited to continue our relationship with Mike [Foley] and Justin [Lo] as they take over the reins as co-showrunners and prepare to bring Joe Goldberg home.”
