The official website for YAIBA: Samurai Legend has confirmed that Season 2 will premiere on January 9, 2027. The same update also unveiled a new visual that teases a three-way clash between Yaiba, Onimaru, and Kaguya as the story moves into its next arc.
The new television adaptation of Gosho Aoyama’s late-1980s manga is directed by Takahiro Hasui, whose recent work includes Mob Psycho 100 III, at WIT Studio. Series composition comes from Toko Machida of Kemono Michi: Rise Up, while Yoshimichi Kameda of Mob Psycho 100 handles character designs and chief animation direction, with music by Yutaka Yamada of VINLAND SAGA and Yoshiaki Dewa of Hell’s Paradise.
Season 1 ran for 24 episodes through 2025 and closed on the arrival of lunar invaders. Season 2 will adapt the Kaguya Arc, picking up after Yaiba and Onimaru’s rivalry is interrupted by Kaguya and her attendant Tsukikage. In Japan, the new season will air on Yomiuri TV, Nippon TV, and affiliated stations on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m.
What is YAIBA: Samurai Legend about?
YAIBA: Samurai Legend is a shonen action-comedy manga written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama, best known later for Detective Conan. Shogakukan serialized the series in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1988 to 1993 and collected it in 24 volumes.
Yaiba Kurogane has spent his days training in the jungle in order to attain his goal of becoming a real samurai. By a twist of fate, he returns to Japan and starts living with the Mine family, who are connected to his father, Kenjuro. Yaiba constantly baffles the Mines' daughter Sayaka as she witnesses his wild and reckless ways. One day, Yaiba tags along with Sayaka to school and has a fateful encounter with Takeshi Onimaru, a kendo expert. Yaiba and Onimaru repeatedly clash, and as if in response to their search for strength, two ancient powers are unleashed: the Fujinken, the Wind God's Sword, and the Raijinken, the Thunder God's Sword. Both supernatural blades that have jolted the world since ancient days have reawakened…and the truth behind them is revealed!
The manga later passed 17 million copies in circulation and first received a 52-episode anime in 1993. WIT Studio’s current remake treats the story as a full new adaptation under Aoyama’s supervision rather than a simple remake of that earlier series.
Season 2 therefore continues a rivalry already defined by the Wind God and Thunder God swords, now pulled into a conflict that reaches the moon. Ami Koshimizu voices Kaguya and Koki Uchiyama voices Tsukikage as those figures step fully into the story.
Season 1 of YAIBA: Samurai Legend streams on Netflix in North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand, and on Hulu in the United States. International platforms for Season 2 have not been confirmed in the official website update, so viewers following the Japanese Saturday broadcast on January 9, 2027 will be watching the Kaguya Arc unfold first at home.
