A fan-favorite mutant may have found her new face, if the latest X-Men report holds up.

The reported cast of Marvel's X-Men movie keeps growing, and the latest name attached to it is Cailee Spaeny. The actress is reportedly in talks to play Kitty Pryde, the fan-favorite mutant who can phase straight through solid objects.

The claim comes from insider MyTimeToShineHello, who reports that Spaeny is in talks for the role. Marvel Studios has not commented on the report, and nothing about the casting is confirmed, so it should be treated as unconfirmed for now.

The same insider added a detail that shapes what the role would actually mean in this first film: Kitty Pryde and Beast "only have small roles in the first movie."

"I guess this is part of why it's so hard for them to close the deals," the insider said, suggesting the smaller parts are part of why neither casting has been locked down yet.

If the talks hold, Spaeny would be a fitting pick for one of the most beloved younger mutants in the comics. She has built a fast-rising résumé in the last few years, leading Priscilla, headlining Alien: Romulus and standing out in Civil War, all before turning 30.

Kitty Pryde has been the heart of the X-Men before

Kitty Pryde joined the comics as a teenager and grew into one of the team's most important members, known for her phasing power and her close bond with Wolverine. On screen, Elliot Page played the character across the Fox-era films, including a central role built around her powers in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

A new Kitty would likely arrive as part of the new team's younger core. The character's history as the audience's way into the X-Men's world makes her a natural fit for a film that has to introduce a whole new generation of mutants at once.

The movie's lineup is filling out around her

Jake Schreier is directing the movie, which is scheduled to open on May 5, 2028. Marvel has already announced much of the main cast, including Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue and Maya Boyd as Storm.

The reported names reach beyond the official announcements. Adam Driver is reported to be playing the villain Mister Sinister, and Peter Claffey has been reported as the new Beast, which would put Spaeny's Kitty Pryde in deep company if every report pans out.

Production is expected to begin in early 2027, so Marvel still has time to confirm or quietly drop any of the reported names. Until the studio says something itself, Spaeny's Kitty Pryde stays in the rumor column — but it is exactly the kind of casting this movie has been making.

Her reported involvement also says something about the film Marvel is building. A lineup mixing veteran figures like Xavier with younger mutants like Kitty points to a movie that starts at the school again, growing its team from the students up rather than arriving fully formed.
