We're officially one week away from the two-episode premiere of X-Men '97, the sequel to the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series (1992–1997), and despite the shocking news that its showrunner, Beau DeMayo, was fired by Marvel, fans are still excited to see their favorite mutants return in the revival. To get fans hyped, Marvel Entertainment has released a sneak peek of X-Men '97, which features new footage of the heroic mutants' battle with the Sentinels.

The sneak peek also features commentary from executive producer Brad Winderbaum and consulting producer Larry Houston as well as the voice cast, including Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler), Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), Lenore Zann (Rogue), and George Buza (Beast) as we get a behind-the-scenes look at the returning voice cast recording in the same studio.

Watch the new sneak peek for X-Men '97 below:

"X-Men '97 is not a reboot of the original series, but literally a next day continuation," Winderbaum revealed in the video. Hough went on to say that they are keeping the powerful themes of the '90s show in the new series, and "adapting it for a brand new audience." The video takes a look at how the original animated series became a phenomenon, and confirms the return of its iconic opening theme song.

What is the story of X-Men '97?

“The revival revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future". The show will explore new sotries in the iconic 90s timeline of the original X-Men: The Animated Series," reads the official synopsis of the new animated series.

Produced by Marvel Studios Animation, with the recently-fired Beau DeMayo as the showrunner, the new series takes place after Charles Xavier/Professor X's loss in the finale, reuniting fan-favorite mutants, including Wolverine (Cal Dodd), Cyclops (Ray Chase), Jean Grey (Jennifer Hale), Storm (Allison Sealy-Smith), Rogue (Lenore Zann), Beast (George Buza), Jubilee (Holly Chou), Gambit (AJ LoCascio), Nightcrawler (Adrian Hough), Bishop (Isaac Robinson-Smith), Morph (JP Karliak), and Magneto (Matthew Waterson).
