X-Men ‘97 is down to its three-episode finale, titled Tolerance is Extinction, and the series still has a lot of loose ends to tie up. As the previous episode finally unveiled the animated series’ main villain, Bastion, it looks like he’s not the only antihero the mutants have to face off. Marvel has released the reboot’s final trailer, but aside from teasing the mutants' preparation for a war, it also makes a reference to Bryan Singer's X-Men movie.

You can see the preview below:

Though the trailer mostly features a look back at the events of X-Men ‘97 so far, it also gives a glimpse of the moments about to unfold in the last three episodes. At the 54-second mark, Storm tells her fellow X-Men to “believe in each other” as they start an epic fight against the enemy. Not only that, but that scene also seems to hint at the appearance of Roberto da Costa as Sunspot. Though his face isn’t revealed, his classic New Mutants costume can be noticed while standing beside Jubilee.

Also, it looks like Forge is about to join the battle, as a man in costume can be seen behind Storm 56 seconds into the preview. But if there’s one thing that surprises many, it’s the appearance of Magneto in his original villain outfit instead of the heroic costume that he donned when he was still with the X-Men. “Charles Xavier entrusted me with his dream. Everything he built, everything he fought for, now belongs to me. My X-Men,” he said as he wore the iconic helmet that protected him against Charles’ telepathy.

But to make things light, the preview also gives a nod to the live-action X-Men (2000) movie when Cyclops gives his son, Cable, an X-Men uniform to wear. “Am I going to war or a circus?” Cable asks his dad, to which Cyclops answers, “What did you expect? Black leather?” This quote is a reversal of “What would you prefer, yellow spandex?” that Cyclops said in the film.
