Unlocking agents in VALORANT used to be quite different back in the day, where you’d have to "Activate” an agent’s contract before you could start progressing them. Nowadays, this system has changed and no longer functions this way. Riot Games released an update some time ago that revamped the agents’ system to make it more functional and easier for players.

The online shooter game features a wide range of agents, with each of them bringing unique abilities to the table. Unlocking these agents allows you to explore special playstyles. Players can unlock these agents in VALORANT through three different methods. One of the ways is to buy them with actual money and unlock them with the help of VALORANT Points (VP). This is usually quite expensive, and players opt not to go this route.

The second way is to earn enough Kingdom Credits to unlock an agent. This is the most popular way since it can be used for all agents and doesn’t require any money. Ever since Riot Games added Kingdom Credits to VALORANT back in Episode 7 Act 1, they have been the most popular way of unlocking agents.

The final way requires players to unlock agents by earning XP. This can only be used for newly released agents and for a limited time. Players can unlock an agent during its initial release phase by earning 250,000 XP without needing to spend any VP or Kingdom Credits.

How do you unlock agents with VALORANT Points?

Players can unlock any VALORANT agent by spending 1,000 VALORANT Points, which can be bought for $10 from the store within the game. All you have to do is launch VALORANT and click on the VP icon present at the top-right corner of your screen. Once you’ve bought 1,000 VALORANT Points, return to the main menu and head over to Collections. After that, head to the Agents tab and click on the agent that you want to buy using your VP.

Along with using your Kingdom Credits to level up agent contracts and unlocking new skins and banners, you can also use them to purchase items from the shop. That’s right, you don’t necessarily have to spend money to be able to buy something for yourself.

Once you’ve earned enough Kingdom Points to afford something, head over to the Store and click on the Accessories tab. Here, you can find and purchase banners, sprays, or gun buddies using the Kingdom Credits that you have saved up.

How to unlock agents through Contracts?

In VALORANT, you’ll find that there are two different types of contracts available to players who are looking to unlock some agents. Players who are new to the game get offered the Free Welcome Contract, which gives them the ability to unlock two agents of their choice. It’s worth noting that both of these choices will be given to the players at Tier 5 and Tier 10 of the contract.

You can reach Contract Tiers by earning XP, and those can be easily gained by frequently playing matches, completing daily and weekly missions, etc. Then comes the Agent Recruitment Event, which allows players to unlock a newly released VALORANT agent for free simply by completing the main objectives of the brand-new event.

However, players must earn 250,000 XP during the event, which usually lasts 28 days. Once those 28 days are up, players who couldn’t unlock the agent can purchase it from the store with the help of VALORANT Points or Kingdom Credits, both of which are mentioned above.

It’s important to note that players won’t be able to unlock new agents through Kingdom Credits until the Agent Recruitment Event comes to an end.

Each agent in VALORANT comes with their own unique pistol skin, which can be unlocked once players have completed their contract. As soon as you progress through the entire contract and reach the tenth or final tier of an agent’s contract, you’ll be able to unlock their associated pistol skins. Each agent comes with a different weapon skin; for example, Viper has her iconic Snakebite Short, so make sure you pick the one you like the most before you start progressing.
