The Uma Musume: Pretty Derby multimedia franchise continues to expand this year. Today, the main trailer for the upcoming Uma Musume: Cinederella Gray anime has been released today along with a new visual, April 6 JST premiere date, and additional voice cast. As previously confirmed, the Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, which is based on the spin-off manga written by Masafumi Sugiura and Taiyo Kuzumi, will run for two split cours.
The trailer previews protagonist Oguri Cap’s character and racing chops, and the the anime's opening song Koeru (Overcome) by Japanese rock band Alexandros. This is the first time for Uma Musume anime to feature a theme song performed by an external artist. The previous theme songs were performed by in-universe idol groups formed by the characters. Yuki Ito is directing the anime at the animation studio CygamesPictures, with Aki Kindaichi (takt op.Destiny) handling the series composition. Takuya Miyahara (Frederica opening movie) and Keigo Sasaki (Blue Exorcist) designed the characters, and Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell) is composed the anime's music.
What is Uma Musume about?
The Uma Musume anime premiered in 2018, and P.A. Works produced the animation of the series. The second season, which premiered in 2021, was produced by Studio KAI, which also produced the third season that aired in 2023. Crunchyroll, which streams the main anime of the multimedia franchise, shared a description for the series:
This is a tale of a world where “horse girls”; with glorious names and incredible running abilities live alongside humanity. Horse girl Special Week has moved from the country to the city to attend Tracen Academy. There, she and her classmates compete to win the Twinkle Series and earn the title of “The County’s #1 Horse Girl.
The Uma Musume: Pretty Derby game was released for iOS and Android on February 21, 2021 and for PC on March 10, 2021. Other than the main TV anime series, the franchise also released the Umayon short-form anime, and the Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Beginning of a New Era film which was released this year.
