TMNT: Mutant Mayhem is a fresh reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise and will release in theatres on August 2. The new incarnations of the half-shelled heroes have already been introduced, and fans’ excitement continues to skyrocket as the release date draws closer. The movie also features a stellar cast, with our very own Jackie Chan as Splinter!

Variety has also reported that Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies have joined hands to produce a sequel for Mutant Mayhem along with a spinoff series for Paramount+ known as Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Point Grey Pictures will reportedly produce the untitled sequel, with the return of Jeff Rowe as the director.

The executive producer of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be Chris Yost and Alan Wan, who will also serve as the showrunners. Point Grey will also have a hand in producing the series, with Lukas Williams overseeing both projects for the company. Brian Robbins, the chief of Nickelodeon, has confirmed this news and told fans how excited the company is to continue building and working on the TMNT franchise.

You can read his full response below:

“In the nearly 40 years since Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles launched into the zeitgeist, it has entertained generations of fans and only continues to grow. We are excited to grow TMNT’s legacy in partnership with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg at Point Grey, and Jeff Rowe, who are innovating the franchise with their singular brand of humor and elevated storytelling for audiences everywhere, across virtually every platform.”

Ramsey Naito, President of Paramount Animation & Nickelodeon Animation, further added, "Reinvigorating this franchise has been years in the making, and we are thrilled to continue expanding the beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe and bringing new adventures to families and fans.”

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set to use traditional 2D animation

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will not use the same animation style as the Mutant Mayhem movies. Instead, the show will be a much more traditional 2D animated series, even though the story will still be directly connected to the movies. It is said that the show is set sometime between Mutant Mayhem and its upcoming sequel to help fill the gap between them.

The animated series will also bring back the teen voice cast with Micah Abbey as Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, and Brady Noon as Raphael. According to the official description, the story of the series follows the Turtles when they are "challenged like never before as Leo, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey each go it alone for the first time. Faced with new threats and teaming up with old allies, the Turtles will discover who they really are when they don’t have their brothers at their sides."
