The official website of the latest anime film adaptation of Riyoko Ikeda's classic historical shojo manga, The Rose of Versailles, has released its main trailer, featuring the theme song -Versailles-, performed by singer-songwriter Ayaka. Studio MAPPA is producing the animation for the film, which is scheduled to release in theaters in Japan on January 31, 2025. Watch the trailer for The Rose of Versaille movie below:
The Rose of Versailles is directed by Ai Yoshimura (Case File nº221: Kabukicho), with Tomoko Konparu (Tonari no Yokai-san) in charge of the script, Mariko Oka (Hell Girl) on the character designs, and Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan) on the film's music with KOHTA YAMAMOTO.

What is The Rose Of Versailles about?
The new upcoming anime film was officially announced in September 2022 as part of the 50th anniversary project to celebrate the publication of Ikeda's original The Rose of Versailles manga. Ikeda's manga series was originally published in Shueisha's shojo manga magazine Margaret from 1972 to 1973. A TV anime adaptation ran from 1979 to 1980, and a live-action film directed by Jacques Demy was released in1979.
