The Marvels Star Brie Larson Teases Possible Return in Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars

With her part in fighting Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, it's not far that Captain Marvel will return to face the new Multiverse villain Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

It looks like Robert Downey Jr. isn’t the only one returning in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. After joining the Avengers and participating in the battles against Thanos in Anthony and Joe Russo’s 2019 Avengers: Endgame, Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel may join the fight against Doctor Doom in the next Avengers movies. In fact, The Marvels star Brie Larson herself teases her possible return to the MCU in Doomsday and Secret Wars.

In an interview with The Playlist’s Bingerworthy podcast, Larson was asked if Captain Marvel would return in Doomsday and Secret Wars. Though the actress remained mum about it, she seemed to tease her possible appearance in Marvel Studios’ next MCU projects.

“I can’t say anything, and I can’t even say that I don’t know anything because that might mean that there’s something to say or not say,” she explained. “So, I’ll just say that I can’t say.”

The 34-year-old star also addressed Downey’s return to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom. Though she wasn’t part of Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at the recent San Diego Comic-Con 2024, she revealed she had talked about the event with the studio’s president, Kevin Feige, before the big announcement. However, he didn’t tell her anything yet then.

“I want to be clear. I was just with Kevin. It was like that same day, and he was like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing a thing at Comic-Con,’” she recalled. “He did not say that at all! Not at all!”

How can Captain Marvel return to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars?

Captain Marvel was last seen in Nia DaCosta’s 2023 The Marvels. Though the film didn’t perform well at the box office, it still set up some plot points that could be connected to Doomsday and Secret Wars. After Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) got trapped in another universe, Captain Marvel and Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) could start finding their ally and that storyline could sit well in the next Avengers movies. While doing so, they might be brought into the midst of the Doctor Doom plot.

With the Russo brothers’ return to helm the two MCU films, they may address several plot points from The Multiverse Saga, including Monica’s current situation. They may establish which universe she got stuck in, given that the X-Men member Beast (Kelsey Grammer) made a cameo at the end of The Marvels. Though it remains to be seen if this will happen, this is the ideal way for Captain Marvel to be part of the next Avengers films.

Given her role in the Multiverse Saga, it is only reasonable that Captain Marvel will be involved in Doomsday and Secret Wars. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, more details may soon emerge as the films' production is set to begin in 2025.

Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
