The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 Reveals Ancient City Insurrection Arc Trailer and Visual

The third and final arc of The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 is coming at the end of this month!

The production team behind the ongoing The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 released a new trailer and key visual, previewing the Ancient City Insurrection arc, which is scheduled to begin airing in Japan on May 31, 2021. The third season premiered on April 5, 2024 in Japan, and Ancient City Insurrection arc is the last of the three parts of the season.

The 30-second trailer features some of the main characters involved in the anime's latest story arc, as well as a preview of the new ending theme titled Shion no Hanataba wo, performed by ASCA. Just like the previous two arcs, Double Seven and Steepchase Chapter, Ancient City Insurrection arc will feature its own theme song. Studio Eight Bit is animating The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3, with Jimmy Stone as director and Muneo Nakamoto as the script writer. Kana Ishida is the character designer, Taku Iwasaki is the music composer, and the opening theme song, titled Shouted Serenade, is performed by LiSa. Crunchyroll is streaming the series in North America and other regions.

What is The Irregular at Magic High School is about?

The Irregular at Magic High School series by Tsutomu Sato originally started as a web novel, and it was published on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website. It was published in light novel format in 2011 by Dengeku Bunko, and each arc of the series also received manga adaptations. The sequel titled The Irregular at Magic High School: Magian Company started in 2020.

The light novel series was licensed by Yen Press in English, and the publisher provided a plot description for The Irregular at Magic High School:

The year is 2095. Magic has been tamed as another form of technology, and the practice of magic is now a rigorous discipline. Brother and sister Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba are just about to start their first year at the renowned First Magic High School of Japan. But the school’s ironclad rules mean that the brilliant Miyuki enters the prestigious Course 1, while her older brother, Tatsuya, is relegated to Course 2–and that’s just the beginning of their troubles!

The first season of the romance science fantasy anime was produced by studio Madhouse, and it broadcasted in Spring 2014, while the Visitor Arc (Season 2) aired in Fall 2020. Eight Bit took over animation duties for Season 2, and the studio also produced the prequel, The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc, which premiered on December 31, 2021. The anime franchise also released a featured film in 2017, titled The Girl Who Summons the Stars (studio 8-bit). A spin-off anime titled The Honor at Magic High School by studio CONNECT aired throughout Summer 2021 anime season.
