The Flash is filled with many cameos and references to the expansive DC Universe. There was a major cameo in the movie that no one really noticed until now, which is a reference to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Recently, a fan noticed and highlighted this major reference. They mentioned that sometime after Barry Allen entered the Chronosphere, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang appeared for a split second.

In the user’s Reddit post, the character is wearing a huge leather overcoat along with a shirt that most likely reads “Captain.” The villain officially became a part of the DC Extended Universe in David Ayer’s movie Suicide Squad. Later, he reprised his role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, in which he dies during the movie's introduction.

However, we aren’t sure if Courtney actually returned for the role or if VFX was used to create Captain Boomerang; many fans believe it’s the latter. Fans went to watch The Flash movie in the hopes of seeing a lot of cameos and references to the entire DC Universe, and it’s safe to say that they weren’t disappointed.

We got to see Michael Keaton stepping into the role of Batman in the movie, along with other scenes containing references to different actors who have shown up in other movies. Many cameos were also achieved with the help of CGI, such as Adam West and Burt Ward showing up as Batman and Robin and Christopher Reeves' Superman features alongside Helen Slater's Supergirl.

Defending VFX In The Flash

The comic enthusiast, writer, and director Kevin Smith is the only person who defended the controversial CGI “resurrection” used in The Flash. The director explained that he thought the use of VFX to bring back actors who had died was a way to pay “tribute” to them and their life-long legacies.

Smith said, “I thought it was just a really nice homage to the past. It didn't feel like an insult. That felt like an homage. Some people are like, 'Yeah, but they're not alive to say yes or no.' And you know, I don't know any actor who would be like, 'Don't use my image when I'm dead.'"

The Flash follows the story of Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, as he tries to go back in time in order to stop his mom’s death. While doing so, he ends up altering the timeline and creates a reality that does not consist of metahumans. When the evil Kryptonian Zod appears to take over Earth, The Flash has no option but to team up with Supergirl (Sasha Calle) and Keaton’s Batman to save the world and wipe all evils.
