What is The Fantastic Four: First Steps about?
As previously confirmed, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set in an alternate 1960s inspired by famed concept artist Syd Mead. “We’re not just doing the ’60s, we’re doing retro-future ’60s,” director Matt Shakman explained. “It’s part what you know from the ’60s, but part what you’ve never seen before.”
The official synopsis for The Fantastic Four: First Steps reads:
During last year's San Diego Comic-Con, Shakman told Entertainment Weekly, “So First Steps is partly to do with that idea about exploration.”
“The comic was created in the early ’60s, really at the same time that the space race was starting, so it is infused with that idea of looking to the stars and dreaming of a future where we would be space travelers,” the director added. “And so I really wanted to take all of that great stuff from Apollo 11 and just imagine that instead of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, it was the Storms and Ben Grimm and Reed Richards heading off into space.”
Directed by WandaVision's Matt Shakman from a script by Eric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer, the first Fantastic Four movie from Marvel Studios also stars Julia Garner as the Silver Surver, Ralph Ineson as Galactus, and Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne and Sarah Niles in mystery roles.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to release in theaters on July 25, 2025
