Netflix has announced the production of a new South Korean film, Good News (working title) along with a photo of the three main cast members: Sul Kyung-gu, Hong Kyung, and Ryoo Seung-bum. On its official social media accounts, the streamer wrote that Good News is a movie set in 1970, "depicting a suspicious operation to land a hijacked plane by any means necessary". An official release date hasn't been announced yet.
Good News is directed by Byun Sung-hyun, who won the Grand Bell award for Best Director at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards with his movie Kingmaker: The Fox of the Election. The new project marks his second collaboration with Netflix. It's also worth noting that Sung-hyun (The Whirlwind) will be working with actor Sul Kyung-gu for the fourth time following their previous projects: The Merciless, Kingmaker: The Fox of the Election, and Kill Boksoon. Kyung-gu will play a mysterious fixer who appears whenever needed to fix incidents.
Ryoo Seung-bum will play a charismatic government official in charge of overseeing the entire operation. He is best known for his roles in Die Bad (2000), Arahan (2004), Crying Fist (2005), The Unjust (2010), and The Berlin File (2013). He also starred in the 2023 Korean fantasy sci-f TV series Moving.
Hong Yung will be depicting an Air Force lieutenant involved in the secret operation. He is known to star in various Korean dramas, including Troll Factory, The Devil, and Weak Hero Class 1.
