After debuting in Stranger Things Season 4 and making everyone fall in love with his character, not to mention his incredible guitar-playing skit, Eddie Munson is back! But this time, in the Stranger Things prequel book, Flight of Icarus. But aside from Eddie, fans are about to meet his family, and the book introduces his father, Al Munson.
In an excerpt from the book via Tudum, Al is revealed to be a robber who asks young Eddie to join him in robbing a chop shop one night. Despite not wanting to do what he’s asked, Eddie can’t help but be amused seeing his dad clicking the lock open with one pick.
“How are you so good at that?” he asks. “Guitar picks, lock picks.” And just with the wave of Al’s hands, the pick disappeared, surprising Eddie again. “You figure out one, you figure out the other,” the senior Munson adds.
As they unlock the warehouse door, Al wrenches the truck door open, undoes the plastic panel beneath the steering column, and asks Eddie to start the vehicle. Seeing him as his mini-me, Al wants Eddie to follow in his footsteps and shoves the pocketknife in his hand, telling him he wasn’t asking him to start the car but to do so. But knowing his father, Eddie knows he only cares for him when he needs him.
This will be the first time that fans are about to see a glimpse of Eddie’s past, as Stranger Things Season 4 only introduced his uncle, Wayne. But aside from Al, readers will also meet the other characters in the president of the Hellfire Club’s life, like Paige, who sees him as a rock ‘n roll god, and Ronnie, his best friend at the time.
What is Flight of Icarus about?
Written by Stranger Things writer Caitlin Schneiderhan, Flight of Icarus tells the story of Eddie’s heroic journey. Of course, this includes all the messy and wrong decisions he has made that paved the way for him to become the misfit he has been known for. The novel will introduce all the people from Eddie’s past who, despite the roles they have played in his life, have shaped the man that fans love today, including his dad.
In an interview with Tudum, Joe Quinn, who played Eddie’s character in the series’ fourth season, revealed he only had a loose background for his role’s parents. As they weren’t introduced to the show, he thought his mom might have died or left while his dad was in prison. As Eddie was estranged from his parents, Quinn added his role experienced all the stuff that young people who didn’t grow up with their father and mother experienced.
Flight of Icarus hits the shelves on October 31. As fans await if Eddie will appear in the upcoming Stranger Things Season 5, they could read this book first.
