The previous promos for Star Wars: The Acolyte have teased a mysterious Jedi behind the killing spree in the galaxy far, far away. Just when many thought it could be the Sith at the end of the preview released on Star Wars Day, there could be a different Jedi killer. A new trailer for the upcoming Disney+ hints at the Jedi killer’s identity, and if the theories are true, the murderer has been in front of us all along.
You can watch the preview for The Acolyte below:
The Acolyte trailer commences with Jedi Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) preparing to face Mae (Amandla Stenberg) in a Cantina. “This is a fight that you will not win,” Indara says confidently. Mae unleashes her incredible fighting abilities as the battle begins and sees Indara defeated. Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) is seen looking at someone’s hologram while Yord Fandar (Charlie Barnett) reveals a woman is killing Jedi, which doesn’t make sense to him.
As Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) wields her lightsaber, which turns into a lightwhip, the scene shifts to a young Sol giving Mae her sword. “I trained to her,” he says. The sequence returns to the present day, showing Mae and Sol face-off, while a man says she’s now a student of the dark side, an acolyte. “I didn’t do it,” Mae screams, seemingly hinting that she’s the Jedi killer.
Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo) then brings out his green lightsaber as he fights off an enemy. Later, Mae is seen on the edge of a cliff. As Sol gets near, with Yord and Jecki Lon (Dafnee Keen) behind him, Mae convinces him to believe her.

The Theory Surrounding the Jedi Killer’s Identity in Star Wars: The Acolyte
The new The Acolyte trailer is also shared on the show’s X page. The preview included a subtitle, but it was later removed after spoiling what could have been the show’s biggest twist. At the 20-second mark, Mae could be heard stressing that she “didn’t do it” while being accused of killing Jedi. But instead of putting Mae's name on the now-removed subtitle, the character speaking was named “Osha.”

This birthed theories that Stenberg might be playing two characters in the series. Mae probably has a twin sister named Osha, who may be the one Sol trained. Hence, Osha likely grew up with the Jedi while Mae was trained by the Sith.
To further prove this claim, the latest poster for The Acolyte showed two images of Stenberg. The one on the right shows her full face, while the other dons a black mask and a hood opposite her. That said, many believe these are two different characters, probably Mae and Osha.
If this is true, The Acolyte will have many questions to answer when it finally releases on June 4, 2024, on Disney+. And if Osha accompanies Sol to find the Jedi killer, she, too, may be looking to face her twin sister.
