From the get-go, Star Wars: The Acolyte is being promoted as a mystery thriller full of action. Its teasers and trailers show Lee Jung-jae’s Jedi Master Sol facing a mysterious Sith Lord, while Carrie-Anne Moss’ Jedi Master Indara battles Amandla Stenberg’s Mae. Of course, there will also be epic lightsaber duels. But among the many fighting scenes the show will feature, showrunner Leslye Headland and lead actress Stenberg tease a “gnarly” girl fight fans should look forward to in Episode 5.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Headland and Stenberg talked about the incredible fighting scenes fans were about to witness in The Acolyte. With the kung-fu-inspired fight sequences, the series creator revealed that there would be a change in tradition in a certain episode.
“I will say that when you get to episode 5, we mix it up,” Headland said.
The Russian Doll creator disclosed that one fight would feature “very down, dirty, and scrappy” hand combat. Though she didn’t reveal who would be involved in this battle, Stenberg claimed it would be a girl fight that would turn gnarly.
“I don't want to say too much, but the stunt or sequence that I'm the proudest of is a girl fight that gets gnarly,” the singer-actress added.
Jecki and Mae's Fight May Turn Gnarly in Star Wars: The Acolyte
Though it remains to be seen which girl fight will turn “gnarly” in The Acolyte, the trailers have teased Mae and Indara’s epic face-off. Like what Headland revealed, these two engage in hand combat, featuring stunningly choreographed stunts. However, Indara ends up using the Force as she tries to stop Mae from hitting her with her dagger. The Jedi Master also uses her lightsaber to dodge Mae’s weapons.
But Indara isn’t the only woman Mae will face in the series. The trailers also reveal her duel against Dafnee Keen’s Jecki Lon. As a Padawan still training under Sol, Jacki will only use her strength to fight Mae, unlike Indara, a formidable Force user. In the preview, Mae holds a knife to Jecki’s throat, making the latter struggle.
Without holding any weapon, Jecki may fight Mae in hand combat, which, given her lack of experience, may become scrappy. Jecki will fight for her life as Mae will try to kill her, probably eyeing her to be her next Jedi victim. Hence, Jecki may rely on her instinct to fight Mae, making it scrappier. Also, as Jecki is Sol’s Padawan, a role Mae used to play, their face-off may turn personal.
These are just two intense fighting scenes fans are about to witness in The Acolyte. As Mae also battles Sol in the trailer, more action is about to be revealed when the series finally releases on Tuesday, June 4, on Disney+.
