Star Wars: The Acolyte Episode 5, titled Night, featured several major events, from revealing the real identity of Mae’s (Amandla Stenberg) Sith Master, The Stranger, to the surprising deaths of major characters. However, one of its biggest twists was when Mae switched places with her twin sister, Osha (Stenberg), pretending to be the former Jedi Padawan as she joined Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) on his ship. As no one knew her real plan, showrunner Leslye Headland explains Mae’s new mission.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Headland talked about The Acolyte Episode 5 and briefly discussed Mae’s new mission as she joined Sol. For starters, after the Sith Master revealed himself as Qimir (Manny Jacinto) and killed the Jedi Knight Yord (Charlie Barnett) and Padawan Jecki (Dafne Keen), he healed an unconscious and wounded Osha.

With this switch, the series creator revealed that it just set up the characters’ “completely different journey” as everything they believed to be true had now been changed. That said, the big question in the recently released episode was what they would do with the information they had just learned.

“Mae says, 'They've brainwashed you,'” Headland recalled. “Part of her mission is not just to finish her kill list. Now that her sister's alive, part of her mission is to prove how the Jedi, and especially Sol, are not what not who Osha thinks they are.”

She continued that truth might come from different directions. Jacinto added that Osha would want to hear what Qimir had to say after questioning her trust in Sol following everything the Jedi had done to her, seemingly referring to the events on Brendok. This left a big question in Osha’s mind, making her puzzled by what Jacinto was trying to say.

Star Wars: The Acolyte May Feature Another Flashback Episode on Brendok

With only three episodes left, The Acolyte still has a lot of questions to answer, from Jedi Master Torbin (Dean-Charles Chapman) willingly taking the poison and asking for forgiveness to the Wookie Jedi Master Kelnacca’s (Joonas Suotamo) decision to go on hiding and the scribbles of the coven symbols on his hut. By the looks of it, these all connect to what happened on Brendok when the Jedi arrived to fetch Osha.

Though it remains to be seen what happened on the said planet, Headland was asked if there would be another flashback episode, considering Kogonada both directed Episodes 3 and 7. To recall, Episode 3 featured the backstory of Osha and Mae on Brendok and the death of Mother Aniseya’s (Jodie Turner-Smith) coven of witches.

“You have to watch to find out,” she said.
