Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Creators Want The Disney+ Series To Follow Harry Potter in A Major Way

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is coming to Disney+ in a couple of weeks, and it will introduce a group of new galaxy-venturing characters accompanied by Jude Law's mysterious Jedi, Jod Na Nawood. Its focused story set in the New Republic era of The Mandalorian could possibly extend to a longer arc across the franchise. In a recent interview with Comicbook.com's Chris Killian, Skeleton Crew creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford (Marvel’s Spider-Man Home Trilogy) revealed that J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter franchise is the blueprint they want to follow when it comes to plotting out the literal and narrative growth of young-adult characters into the adult world.

“We wanted to make sure that this first season feels like its own self-contained arc,” Watts told Comicbook.com. “But we definitely have an idea of where the story could continue to go.”

“It’s funny because you kind of get a storyline for free because the kids are growing up,” Ford said. “So whatever we do, part of the story is going to be about growing up in Star Wars. Which is something we haven’t exactly seen; like we saw Anakin jump to being a lot older in one big jump, but…”

It would be interesting to see the growth of young characters aging onscreen. Other than Ahsoka Tano, we haven't really seen any Star Wars character make that kind of progression that could see them ending up later on in the timeline of the franchise, so Skeleton Crew could be just the beginning of their long journey, and the audience might get to watch them grow:

“I’m more interested in sort of the Harry Potter progression of like growing up with the kids and seeing how they adapt to the galaxy as they get older,” Watts added.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Plot

The official synopsis of Skeleton Crew reads:

When four kids make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home, and meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.
