Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has been described as "Goonies in Star Wars" because of the group of children who will serve as the main cast of the upcoming show. However, the Disney+ series is not just a fun show for kids. Co-creator Chris Ford says there's something for everyone and that this is an adventure that will please fans of "all ages."
Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts and Homecoming's Chris Ford had a specific tone they were aiming for with Skeleton Crew. Ford confirmed that they wanted to work on a TV show that felt like a film produced by Amblin, the production company co-founded by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and the legendary Steven Spielberg.
For those who are not familiar with Amblin's projects, the company produced films like E.T. The Extraterrestrial, Gremlins, and of course, Goonies. So it only makes sense that Skeleton Crew has the same young yet serious feel.
"Skeleton Crew's tone is an adventure," Ford told Entertainment Weekly. "We wanted it to be a lot of fun. But of course, along with adventure comes the downside of it, which is danger."
He continued, "And when the kids are in danger, it's extra fraught. So we played with that, but overall we wanted it to be just a fun adventure."

Not surprisingly, pitching Skeleton Crew to Kennedy wasn't easy considering the Amblin connection but the Lucasfilm president did provide some interesting advice to make the show an adventure "for all ages."
"When we told Kathy Kennedy about that we wanted to go for that Amblin tone, which she perfected over the years, what she would say is that they never thought of those as movies for kids," Ford stated. "They just happen to be about kids, a story of a kid going on an adventure. So it could be for anyone."
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will feature Jude Law as a mysterious Jedi who encounters a band of kids who end up on an adventure. The series will also star Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Tunde Adebimpe, Kerry Condon, and Jaleel White.
For now, Skeleton Crew has not yet been given an official release date but is already set to premiere on Disney+ later this year.
