Star Wars: Simon Kinberg Reveals Similarity Between Canceled Boba Fett Movie and Logan

Simon Kinberg compares the scrapped Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story to Marvel’s Logan.

When Disney+ purchased Lucasfilm back in 2012, they immediately planned to produce some new Star Wars movies. Many of them did end up releasing and were a hit among many Star Wars fans, such as Solo: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Unfortunately, plenty of other films were also under production but weren’t really made.

Not only this but a completely different Star Wars: Episode VII version was under production, whereas a spinoff based on Boba Fett was also in the works with Josh Trank being the director and Simon Kinberg as the writer. However, the movie was never released, and the character ended up appearing in The Mandalorian as well as his very own series called The Book of Boba Fett. Now, we know some more information regarding the movie that might have been.

During an interview with Polygon, Simon Kinberg spoke up on his canceled project when asked about it and also compared the film to 2017’s Logan when it came to its look and tone. You can read his entire response below:

"Tonally like Logan . On the edge of R-rated, though I don't think you'd have a Star Wars movie that could be R-rated. But at any rate, I think over time, my role morphed as a friend of the court. And so it ranged from being a consultant on the movies, give thoughts, notes, sometimes actual pages for scripts, and obviously co-creating Star Wars Rebels and really staying with that show that I loved. Part of what was so exciting about Rebels was that we were getting to do something that those movies I just mentioned didn't entirely do, which is create a brand-new set of characters."

The Next Star Wars Movie On The List

Looking at the past, it is safe to assume that Star Wars has officially shifted over to Disney+. Regardless of being successful with its TV shows, such as The Mandalorian, Star Wars does not have any plans of staying off the big screen. Even though Lucasfilm shelved the Rogue Squadron movie, they announced three brand-new movies at Star Wars Celebration this year. The three Star Wars films are set to take place in completely different eras of the Star Wars timeline, some of them even separated by thousands of years.

Logan director James Mangold was announced to be directing one of the new Star Wars movies, with Lucasfilm confirming that his film "will go back to the dawn of the Jedi." Dave Filoni was announced to be the filmmaker of another Star Wars movie, which focuses on the era of the New Republic and might just "close out the interconnected stories told in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series."

When it comes to Boba Fett, it might appear on Star Wars TV, but the exact date and platform aren’t clear. Boba Fett might even appear in the Dave Filoni movie, but we aren’t sure when that will be released or if another season of The Book of Boba Fett will be made.
