Gina Carano surprised everyone with a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm with the help of the business magnate Elon Musk in February 2023. Now, over a month after her legal fight against two of the biggest studios in the entertainment scene started, the former MMA fighter opened up about her The Mandalorian firing and how she couldn’t believe that the use of android sounds could be the end of her.
For a refresher, three years after Carano’s firing, she took a stand and sued Lucasfilm and Disney for discrimination and wrongful termination in a lawsuit, with her bills being footed by Musk The two entertainment giants fired the actress after the hashtag #FireGinaCarano gained traction online due to her series of right-wing social media posts, including the use of “boop/bop/beep” as her pronouns.
However, what she thought was a cute android sound, liking it to R2-D2, turned out to be a “massive meltdown” that would be the end of her future in Star Wars and The Mandalorian. She couldn’t even believe that it would ignite her parting ways with Lucasfilm and Disney.
“Boop/bop/beep?” she asked in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Seriously? This was the start of the end for me?”
Carano stressed that she would never mock the trans community. She even revealed that she had male publicists whom she ran around wearing her shoes and dresses. And to stop the fuss about it, The Mandalorian lead star, Pedro Pascal, who has a trans sister, even tried to help her, asking her to put “#transrights” in her feed so that people would leave her alone. But Carano didn’t follow his advice, saying it wasn’t her style.

What is Gina Carano’s The Mandalorian lawsuit about?
In her lawsuit, Carano alleged that Disney and Lucasfilm “harassed” and “defamed” her for not having the same points of view on many issues, like Black Lives Matter, preferred pronouns, and elections. She even believed that she was fired because of her cultural and religious beliefs. The 41-year-old also accused Disney of paying no heed to her male co-stars, who also made offensive remarks and posts directed toward Republicans worse than her.
Carano cited Pascal’s 2017 post, wherein he compared the former US President Donald Trump to Hitler, although it had already been deleted. The complaint also revealed that Disney asked her to release a statement that would see her admitting to mocking a group of people and issuing an apology. But after she refused, she was fired from The Mandalorian.
Despite everything that had happened, Carano had no regrets about her actions. Sure, she didn’t find herself a perfect person, but she believed she was doing her best while being canceled unnecessarily.
Though Carano expressed her interest in reprising her role as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian by seeking a court order to force Lucasfilm to recast her, she claimed she just wanted to clear her name. As she’s about to return to the spotlight with a new agency, Straightwire Entertainment, she looks forward to seeing the next chapter of her career, though it may not include a Star Wars role this time.
