Squid Game Season 3 Release Date Reportedly Revealed (Did Netflix Accidentally Leak It?)

Squid Game Season 3 might arrive sooner than expected, but fans will have to wait for Netflix to officially confirm an exact release date.

Just a few weeks after the Squid Game Season 2 was released on Netflix, the hype for its third and final season is already picking up steam, and the streamer might have accidentally revealed when exactly it will be released. While Netflix already revealed that the highly-anticipated season would release sometime in 2025, after a teaser trailer confirmed its release window, a now-deleted video from Netflix Korea may have leaked an exact release date. If accurate, this would mark a quick turnaround, although it shouldn't surprise fans given that the second and third seasons were filmed back-to-back.

According to a description of a YouTube short recently shared on Netflix Korea's official channel, Squid Game Season 3 is coming to Netflix on June 27, 2025. The clip in question was part of the streamer's promotions for the final season, and though it has since been removed, the leak has already been seen by many keen-eyed viewers. Hollywood Handle on X shared screenshots of the now-deleted description with a leaked launch date.

While the first season of Squid Game was released in September 2021, Season 2 was just released this past December, so the if the leaked release date is accurate, the six-month from the second season to Season 3 is lightning-fast in comparison to the chasmic three-year gap between Season 1 and Season 2, and that's the result of Hwang Dong-hyuk's hard work in producing the final two seasons together.

Why is Squid Game Season 3 coming soon?

Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed in an interview with IndieWire last month that the delay between the first two seasons of Squid Game was due to the show's unplanned continuation, explaining that he wrote Season 1 "without much thought about doing the second season," and the massive success meant he had to return to expand on a project that he initially didn't even consider might release more episodes.

I wrote Seasons 2 and 3 at the same time… and along the storyline, there is a turning point that takes place, and that leads to a series of different events, and also leads to a significant change in the character. Relatively speaking, the ending for Season 2 came to me quite early on. However, the ending to Season 3, actually ended up [in] a different direction than what I had initially conceived of. While I was working on the story and working on the script, I saw this new path that I wanted to go down, and so the ending of Season 3 actually changed in the process of creating Season 2.

If Netflix keeps the leaked release date, this will likely be a good decision. With Squid Game Season 2 finale's cliffhanger ending, the audiences are now eager to find out how the series will wrap things up in the show's final season, and a longer gap between seasons would have gotten fans more frustrated with the series. A June 2025 release date would be a much shorter wait than the gap between Seasons 1 and 2. However, Netflix hasn't officially announced the exact 2025 release date, so stay tuned for a confirmation later this year.
