Netflix has released a new trailer for the highly-anticipated Squid Game Season 2. The first season of the Emmy-winning South Korean thriller proved to be a huge global hit for the streamer, becoming the most-watched season of a non-English TV series in Netflix's history, along with being in the Global Top 10 for nine consecutive weeks. Now, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is returning to the dangerous games in an attempt to take them down and the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun).
Season 2 takes place three years after Gi-Hun won Squid Game, giving up on moving to the U.S. to return with a new mission in his mind. The trailer opens with a look at the return of the infamous Red Light, Green Light game as well as its deadly giant robotic doll, Young-hee. Gi-hun tries to prevent other competitors from moving, but fails to avoid the horror as other players moved and killed on the spot. The rest of the trailer shows him trying to help other competitors survive and escape the games, but as his efforts to help them continue, he eventually admits that he has participated in the games before.

As Gi-hun shares his knowledge about the games, the other competitors start to distrust him and even accuse him of working for the Front Man and the other people behind the games. There are also shots of the Front Man’s brother, Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-jun), along with other police officers, as they try to shut down the games. It looks like Gi-hun is openly trying to take down the games, as the Front Man and the rest of the guards appear to be aware of the former winner's presence.

Will Squid Game Season 2 feature new games?
Despite the new footages revealing a lot of interactions between Gi-hun and the other players, the trailer didn't reveal much about the new games. A huge part of the trailer takes place in the players' quarters, giving a glimpse of them being given the choice to either leave the games or continue to play to win the big prize. However, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk previously revealed that Season 2 will mostly feature new games. "Most of the games will be new this time around," the filmmaker told Entertainment Weekly. "They are once again simple children's games that a lot of kids in Korea grew up playing. I remember being on set and being reminded of my childhood days."
The filmmaker didn't reveal what games will be featured this time around, but explained to EW how he wanted to open up the games to be more universally recognized in the new season. "In many different countries around the world, there will be some kind of version similar to these games that you probably have played as a child," Hwang explained. "They're going to be both very easy to understand and play, and very fun."
