Netflix has released a new trailer for Squid Game Season 2 during the streamer's Geeked Week event in Atlanta. The video opens with a clearly tense Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) wielding a gun on an approaching masked character. He finds himself back as Player 456 once again. The clip quickly shifts to the new players preparing to start a series of deadly games. The only words spoken comes from a voiceover, saying, “We’re ready to start the game” in Korean.

The second season takes place three years after Gi-Hun won Squid Game, giving up on moving to the states to return with a new mission in his mind. He's back to the sinister survival game, joining another life-or-death game with new players gathered for a chance to win the life-changing ultimate prize: 45.6 billion won. Previously, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed to Deadline that the sequel will see Gi-hun seeking revenge, joining the game as a more serious character. So, this time, Gi-hun will instead be focused on getting to the creators of the game, instead of just trying to win the entire competition.

“It’s been almost three years since Season 1 was met with incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events took place,” Dong-hyuk wrote in a letter when the premiere date for the second seaosn was announced. “On the first day we began shooting Season 2, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.’ It almost felt surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years as well.”

He went on to say, “Seong Gi-hun who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1 returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year. I am thrilled to see that the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story. We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride.”

Squid Game Season 2 Details We Know So Far

According to series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game Season 2 will mostly feature new games. "Most of the games will be new this time around," the filmmaker told Entertainment Weekly. "They are once again simple children's games that a lot of kids in Korea grew up playing. I remember being on set and being reminded of my childhood days."

The director didn't reveal what games will be featured this time around, but explained to EW how he wanted to open up the games to be more universally recognized in the new season. "In many different countries around the world, there will be some kind of version similar to these games that you probably have played as a child," Hwang explained. "They're going to be both very easy to understand and play, and very fun."
