Netflix is now gearing up for the much-awaited release of Squid Game Season 2 after the first season’s major cliffhanging finale. The show received international attention and critical acclaim when it debuted worldwide in September 2021, resulting in a second-season renewal in June 2022. As the story continues with a fresh batch of deadly games and a new ensemble of characters, controversial actor Oh Dal-su joins the cast of the hit Netflix series.

After being involved in sexual harassment allegations in 2018, Dal-su continues his triumphant return to the entertainment scene. The 55-year-old took a hiatus following the controversy but was later found “not guilty” in 2019 after the case's statute of limitations expired without a formal investigation. After his return to the industry in 2020, his agency, C-JeS Studio, confirmed his appearance in Squid Game Season 2, though his character remains unknown.

“It is true that Oh Dal-su will star in Season 2 of Squid Game,” the agency announced via Naver, as translated by Soompi. “It is difficult to reveal his role or screen time.”

What is Oh Dal-su’s controversy about?

The issue about Dal-su’s sexual harassment started on February 22, 2018. However, though he strongly denied the allegation, further accusations came to light in a broadcast on JTBC’s Newsroom on February 26 after her alleged victim gave an interview. Just after a day, actress Uhm Ji-young came forward and revealed she was also sexually harassed by Dal-su in 2003.

With the continuous revelations, Dal-su pulled out from his then-upcoming series My Sister. He later admitted to the crime and issued a lengthy apology to his victims, taking full responsibility. He was then dropped from the cast of the movie Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, while his three other films’ release was delayed. However, after living a secluded life on a farm on Geoje Island, he was found “not guilty” and continued his career.

What to Expect from Squid Game Season 2

Squid Game Season 2 will continue the journey of Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae) as he abandons his plans to fly to the U.S. to see his daughter to find the Front Man. Despite winning a whopping 45.6 billion cash prize in the first season, he aims to end the game so that it stops claiming innocent lives, who are desperately looking for money for different reasons by joining the deadly competition without knowing its dire consequences.

Talking to Tudum in December, the series director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, teased the long wait would surely be worth it. Executive producer Kim Ji-yeon added the cast and crew poured their “hearts and souls” to prepare for the show’s return, hoping fans would stay tuned and root for them.

Netflix has yet to announce when Squid Game Season 2 will be released, but it’s part of its 2024 slate of K-dramas. That said, it will only take a matter of time before the series stuns fans again.
