One of the biggest surprises in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was the Earth-42 Variant of Miles Morales who was revealed to have taken the Prowler mantle. But was Miles truly a villain or is he just someone who is trying to protect his own universe? The art book for the animated sequel has revealed some interesting new details about the mysterious character.
In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales escapes from the Spider Society and tries to go back home to save his father. But instead of Earth-1610, Miles is sent to Earth-42 because this is where the spider that bit him originated from.
Miles discovers that his Earth-42 Variant has become the Prowler. But despite his tough demeanor and scary title, the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse art book has revealed that the Earth-42 Miles is actually a vigilante trying to keep his world safe (via Reddit).
In the art book, it is confirmed that Earth-42 Miles, who is distinguished as Miles G. Morales, "was never bitten by a radioactive spider and doesn't have any superpowers, but he has fallen into the role of becoming the vigilante the Prowler, under the tutelage of his uncle Aaron."
Director Justin K. Thompson explains that meeting Earth-42 Miles changed Miles' perspective on the whole situation.
"Miles comes face to face with this other version of himself and realizes that because one thing dropped the other way, everything has changed due to the 'butterfly effect,' where one small change can result in larger changes to a deterministic nonlinear system-in this case an entire reality," he said.
It's an interesting way to put it and it's also amazing to realize that Miles G. Morales would still choose to do good. With that in mind, we're hoping to learn more about the Earth-42 Miles really soon.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is scheduled for release on March 29, 2024.
